How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Bakersfield Large Animal Hospital

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

I've had to use this equine hospital 3 times for 3 different horses who had sand colic. The care and immediate response I've received all 3 times have been impressive. Within 5 minutes of my arrival with my emergency's, my horses were examined and within 10 minutes of my arrival aggressive colic treatment was started. They do thorough examinations, and never took my emergencies lightly. I lost my first horse but not because of them. He was under another vet at the time and wasn't getting better after a barn treatment. The vet treating him couldn't get back out because of his other emergency calls. My horse was very sick when he landed on their door step. We had to travel either 2 hours to Chino or 1.5 to these guys. His heart rate was 104. They told me my prognosis wasn't good and called me with so much compassion when all of their efforts to save my boy didn't work. The immediate response I got with him made me go back with my second colic of the year last month. I never had any hesitation be cause of the care and swiftness in their actions for my first horse even with the death of him. My second horse Storm didn't get a barn call for colic because I will never go through that heartache again if I can help it. The immediate attention to him was the same. Within 5 mins he was being treated. So this week when the temp hit 115 where we live and my 3rd Drum horse Duke decided he wanted to follow in his brother Storm's footsteps and colic, we rushed him up to these guys. We saw Dr Jones. He's the new vet that Dr. Tolley, and Dr. Gonzales work with. Not only was he just as expedient and efficient as Dr Gonzales was with my other 2 Drums Leonidas (RIP) and Storm, but just as thorough and compassionate. I would recommend these guys over and over again to people who have a need from vets who love their jobs and the animals they care for. We are very grateful for having found them. Thank you, Robert and Tammie Bennett

Dr.gonzalez and staff are amazing.. my filly came to me after a 3 day trip at 4 months old, she arrived with parasite blockage/colic...they saved my babygirls life. She is a very big girl at 1 yr old she is 15 hands and 1130lbs but they are so loving and patient with her. Dr.gonzalez explains everything he is doing.he is knowledgeable, gentle and is not about money (his priority is the animal) and by far the best staff in bakersfield 🙂 my girl gets so excited to trailer cause she knows she is going to see her friends at the vet office and the staff gets happy to see her too.... 💕🌸🌸🌸 BLOSSOM LOVES YOU GUYS

Words can’t express how thankful myself and my family feel about the wonderful care our equine family members receive from Dr. Tolley and Dr. Gonzalez. It’s such a helpless feeling when you have an emergency and need a vet asap. They both have come out to us very quickly on different occasions and are professional and personable. The office visits have been easily done as well. They educate you on the issue at hand and offer options to solve said issue. The office staff is great too, easy to book appts and get info. from be it in person or by phone.

Dr.Tolley was professional and caring towards my horse. Dr. Tolley took the time to explain the condition of my horse and how to treat the wound. He was able to treat my horse wound and provided medication, antibiotics, and kit with treatment material (sheet cotton etc).I’m coming back to treat my horse teeth and sheath clean. The receptionist was friendly and kind. Dr. Tolley prices are affordable. I highly recommend Dr. Tolley he very knowledgeable.
