How to Save Money at The Village Veterinary Hospital Boarding and Doggie Day Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We have had dogs our whole life. Village vet is the best we have ever been to. Service is top notch. From the second you walk in the door until you get home. Dr Kashak is the best. Our dog had surgery and Dr Kashak has personally called us every day to check on our pup. Never had a Dr do that before. All other vets we have been to the Dr's seem to hide in the background, not Dr Kashak, he truly loves what he does. Britni was awesome also. She sat and explained everything to us before we left. Autumn was very helpful too. Overall great experience

Upset irate still panicking over the health of my baby… I took my doggo in yesterday because she was throwing up blood. Turns out it was bone. So definitely no more of those, lesson learned. This is my first time with any emergency vet visit and honestly beyond shots I’ve never had to take an animal to the doctor before. I got no words… I was supposed to take her back in today for a follow up x-ray. But, we never made that appointment. I suspect they would charge me for an emergency visit as well today since I didn’t have an appointment. They sold me some over the counter medicine for Crow. Probiotics! What in the evil rake you over the coals kinda practice is that? $44.68 for something you can get on chewy for $24… why would you not explain that it’s over the counter? They were also supposed to give her a shot to help with her nausea … I was supposed to go back yesterday to get that shot, but I never heard from them. I called yesterday around 3:30 to see if they were stocked on the medicine yet, but the lady told me she wasn’t and that she would call when it came in. When I called today, they still don’t have the medication. So they told me I could give her the pills… we could’ve done that yesterday and she could’ve been feeling better by now… How are you gonna sit there and tell me that my dog’s health and well-being is your priority when you put off giving her the medicine that will make her feel better and make sure she’s not internally bleeding and sell extra stuff she doesn’t need? I feel very taken advantage of. Also, when I told them I had talked to them on the phone, Terry at the front desk looked at me like he had no clue what I was talking about, because he didn’t, I actually called a different vet in Prescott, yet he never said we didn’t talk or I was in the wrong place. Tracy, the man at the Yavapai emergency animal hospital off Florentine in Prescott, was the man that I talk to. He also called me in the afternoon since we didn’t show up to make sure that we were OK. He was so concerned about Crow never even having met us. Seriously… He was super concerned about baby girl! I feel like Crow would’ve gotten better care from these people instead. $1325 to still be worried and not have my baby girl better… I’m at a loss right now. I feel like I stepped into a car dealership yesterday instead of a veterinarian office…

Jazz Bouquet Floral

Dr. Scudder and team have taken excellent care of our fur babies (whisper and jazzy) for over 12 years! I highly recommend them. Open 7 days a week a plus, Diagnosis, care, always fairly priced. I really appreciate all they have done for our family over the years. Especially Dr. Scudder.

Not only did Dr Scudder and the entire team at Village Vet support my senior daschund through multiple complex medical needs over the last couple of years. They also shepherded us through a smooth and peaceful euthanasia process, when the time came. They were able to set up an Outdoor space for my doggies passing, with the sound of a water fountain trickling in the background, instead of being inside the clinic (outside of 1 step of the process which needs to be done inside). I can’t thank them enough for their care, diligence, and accommodation.
