How to Save Money at Sedona Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We started with them when one of our 5 dogs was suddenly very ill. The pictures are of our dogs they have cared for. The black dog suddenly started having seizures and the vet and staff were so helpful and supportive in helping us keep her comfortable until she passed. Same for our old golden retriever, Katie. They really understand and are so good with both animals and humans. They even call to follow up on how your pet is doing after a visit. The vet called me at 7 pm at night after my little Chihuahua had dental cleaning and teeth pulled because he read in her chart she'd had some bleeding right at discharge. Love this clinic and highly recommend them.

Our first encounter with this veterinary clinic was with our dog, Zoey, who had just been diagnosed with a brain tumor at age 10. The veterinarian that met with us was absolutely wonderful, very compassionate and patient with our concerns. The staff was also quite lovely. Unfortunately our dog passed. They also assisted us in having her body cremated and returned her ashes to us. We will be using them with our other fur babies as we have several more. Highly recommend this veterinary clinic.

I took my puppy to get neutered and they surgically removed his dewclaws without even telling me when I dropped him off! He came back with big bandages on his hind legs. There were way too many animals in the clinic, it was a mad house. Then 2 days later, I had an emergency and had to drive 13 hours with my puppy to get to my elderly dad. I begged them to please squeeze me in and give my puppy a quick parvovirus shot so he could be safer on the road. The HEARTLESS, mean and cranky receptionist was so utterly rude and could have cared less. I will never take my puppy back there.

This is the best veterinary clinic we have ever been to. Dr David and his staff are amazing and truly care about treating and healing animals. There is so much love and compassion in the office, you can feel it when you walk in the door. I recently had to put my beloved 17 year old dog down and Dr. David came over to our home after hours to make the transition for our beloved dog easier than having to go into the clinic. He handled everything with such love and compassion, we can not thank him enough. This is the best vet clinic in Sedona, I can not recommend Dr. David enough. Thank you for everything you do.

My diabetic baby was in critical condition so I rush him to this clinic. Due to traffic I arrived at 5:02 ( they close at 5). Due to the emergency nature and fact that there were at least 6 cars in the parking lot, I knocked on the door. When looking inside I saw 2 young girl hiding behind the front desk peeking their heads up. I continued to knock for several minutes until one girl finally answered. The girl who identified herself as a technician said the Dr’s had left and could not help me. As I am not from the area and I asked where else I could go and she did advise me. I understand that they were closed but the unprofessional peek a boo game these two girls were playing cost my baby precious minutes and in my opinion was deplorable and lacked sensitivity. I would NOT recommend this clinic to anyone that expects professionalism.
