How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I have been with Dr. Cotter, and many of the staff, and Drs. in the practice for 25 years. I feel that they are all friendly and care for your family, 4 legged, or 2 legged pets as their own. They treat you with love, and respect. They explain all procedures, and plan of care with opportunity to answer all of your questions. They advise on what's best and there with you every step of the way. I have never found another practice as professional and caring at this Banfield Pet Hospital.

Dr. Cotter is an incredible asset to Banfield Pet Hospital. Her compassion, intelligence, and dedication set her apart in every way. She handles my cat, Andy, as if he were her own—with a gentleness, kindness, and warmth that instantly puts both of us at ease. Andy is usually terrified to leave home, but thanks to Dr. Cotter’s calm and loving approach, his visits are as stress-free as possible. What makes her truly exceptional isn’t just her bedside manner—it’s her deep knowledge and clinical skill. She explains everything with such clarity and patience, always making sure I understand every option and step. No matter how many questions I ask, I’ve never felt rushed or dismissed. She treats both her patients and their people with the utmost respect and care. Dr. Cotter is the kind of veterinarian every pet parent hopes to find—smart, compassionate, and deeply committed to the well-being of animals. Banfield is incredibly lucky to have her, and anyone whose pet is under her care can rest easy knowing they are in the absolute best hands.

Extremely Disappointed – Lack of Urgent Care for My Cat I’m writing this review with a heavy heart and deep frustration about my experience with Banfield Pet Hospital at McDowell Mountain Ranch in Scottsdale. My cat, Bowie, has experienced four asthma attacks in the last seven days, and the lack of response from this clinic has been shocking. I called four times last Thursday requesting an albuterol rescue inhaler during an active asthma attack. No one returned my call. I’ve followed up several times since and still received no action or support. Today, during yet another attack, I called again and was told that my assigned veterinarian, Dr. Cotter, wasn’t available and I’d have to wait until tomorrow. This is a life-threatening condition and should be treated with urgency. Sadly, that urgency is completely lacking here. I’ve waited over seven days for a response to my request for a rescue inhaler. Today I was informed the doctor they assigned to me - Cotter - was not in the office and so they could not help my cat. Dr. Stoke told me they were over scheduled today and to take my cat to an emergency clinic. This is not the first major issue I’ve had. On a previous occasion, I brought my sick cat to a scheduled appointment, only to find the clinic closed with no notice. I waited outside for 45 minutes, confused and worried, while my cat was again in distress. Apparently, the doctor wasn’t available, so they simply closed the office without informing clients. I was also enrolled in a care plan expecting X-rays and full preventative care, but none of that was provided. Despite the visit being labeled “comprehensive,” no X-rays were done, no overdue vaccines given, and no fecal exam performed. I’ve trusted Banfield with my pet’s health, but this location has repeatedly let us down—poor communication, no follow-through, and a shocking lack of urgency for a pet with a chronic, potentially fatal condition. I truly hope this review encourages serious reflection and improvement from this clinic. Our pets deserve better.

Just sad that you entrust a vet to help you with your dog and Everytime you go in for your appointment the vet always tries to upsell on unnecessary exams, shots & medications that are unnecessary. Please Stop falling for their pushy and unnecessary tactics. My dog had severe allergies, after being prescribed cytopoint injections $200/month & Apoquel costing $200/month, I narrowed it down that my dog was allergic to chicken through a differs source of testing than banfield! The vet wasn’t even knowledgeable about allergies and what are causes them! Couldn’t explain food intolerance to me! They only treat the symptoms NOT the exact cause of the problem. That is why they sell and push every test on their clients to make their quota, not because they care, they are overworked vets that are not getting paid and have to use their bedside manner or lack thereof to push clients that don’t know any better into tests that are unnecessary, before you know it the cost is $1000 after they are finished! They will illegally withdraw the monthly fee adding unnecessary charges thinking the clients won’t notice & refuse to refund! Customer service is horrible and rude.
