How to Save Money at Pet Urgent Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

PLEASE READ: My brother-in-law, Ben, is a Phoenix Fire Fighter and Paramedic. This morning (1/30/26) he had a house fire where this sweet kitten was severely burned. Ben wanted to save this kitten, and he took it to a different vet where he was quoted over $3,500. Ben has a baby on the way and is saving as much $ as he can... So Ben took this burned kitten to Pet Urgent Care this morning at 4am. He walked in, shared the story, and everyone on staff was incredibly compassionate. They treated this little kitten with such tender care and attention it was incredible. Pet Urgent Care completed a full exam, x-rays, provided pain medication, antibiotics and treatment. They also committed to completing his vaccinations, follow up care, and neutering! Ben asked how much this will cost and they said its all going to be FREE!!! They refused any payment whatsoever!! They love animals so much there and they just earned my business for LIFE. Any company that is willing to do this much to care for a sweet animal out of the goodness of their heart has earned my trust.

We will forever be grateful to Dr. Gilson, Dr. Shaheen, Rachel, Trevor and the entire staff of Pet Urgent Care for saving our dog Sholoh's life! Dr. Gilson performed emergency surgery in the evening assisted by Dr. Shaheen and Rachel, both of whom had spent three hours with us and Sholoh diagnosing, testing and discussing treatment options for her life threatening condition. We can't tell you how much we appreciate their professional care and their utmost compassion for Sholoh and for us. They all gave so much of their time to help guide us towards our decision. The communication from them through out the surgery and through out the night was incredible. We've had pets for over 40 years and can truly say these professionals pulled out all the stops to save her life. We are forever in their debt!

Out of a list of 20 veterinarians, I know I made the best decision choosing this location. I recently purchased a puppy, and anytime I had a concern I would call and speak with Sabrina at the front desk—she was always incredibly helpful, polite, and genuinely attentive to my pet’s needs. We recently had an appointment, and the doctor was just as professional and supportive. I can honestly say that coming here has made my pet journey such a relief.10 out of 10—would absolutely recommend.

I cannot say enough good things about this clinic and their team. My brother is a firefighter and rescued a cat this morning from a house fire. Another vet we spoke with said the care would cost close to $4,000 and even suggested that euthanasia might be the only realistic option. The cat was clearly in pain, but still alert and fighting. This clinic stepped in and completely changed everything. They treated him with such compassion and urgency. They performed X-rays, gave pain medication, started antibiotics, provided food, and monitored him carefully. They were honest, kind, and focused on what the cat actually needed, not on upselling fear-based care. What truly amazed us is that they comped the bill and told us that all follow-up care will be free. In a moment where we were emotionally overwhelmed and financially scared, they showed pure humanity. This was a burn victim who deserved a fighting chance, and this team gave him exactly that. They did not just provide medical care, they saved a life. I will forever be grateful to this clinic. If you are ever in a crisis with your pet, this is the kind of place you pray you find.

Something very special happened this week. My dog had ingested some kind of poison, and I rushed her to this place. They diagnosed the issue right away, administered activated charcoal, gave her a shot and some medication. The odds were slim to none — but I’m so grateful to say that by Friday, she was alive and well, playing, eating, and back to her normal self. This place saved my dog’s life. I can’t thank them enough. Highly recommended them.
