How to Save Money at Desert Hills Animal Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
Unfortunately my last experience (but multiple prior leading up to this) was the last straw. My pet was in serious distress from suspected bladder stones. He has a history and already had one surgery for them 11 months ago. They had only one doctor on staff and no appointments available. I was offered to come in as a walk in and sit and wait to be seen, and was told that it would be at an additional cost as a walk in. What? Are you calling in another doctor to cover this? No, just sit and wait and when we can fit you in, you will be seen. It could be hours so be prepared. What would I be paying extra for? The answer I was given was that they provide the needs of their community. Huh? They were short and Kurt. We ended up driving to Prescott Animal Hospital where he was seen that day, and scheduled for surgery. They were able to manipulate a stone out to give him some relief until surgery. Their kindness and the concern they have is unmatched. Desert Hills needs to train their front desk staff to have the same empathy and kindness. Our two favorite Vets are no longer there and frankly, there is no reason to stay. Prescott is certainly worth the drive for the compassion and professionalism the exert. I used to love this place and recommended it to everyone. The last several visits have been subpar with nothing but “upselling” going on. It is sickening to be made to feel that because you choose not to take a “service” and go an alternative route that you aren’t making the best decision. I have Yorkies and these little guys are lovingly referred to as our little money pits! We take exceptional care of them, grooming and all of their medical needs so don’t comment that if you can’t afford them you should t have them. That’s not the problem. Price gouging and a used care salesman approach is the problem!

Love this place. Been going there since dogs were babies. Dr Fowler help us yesterday. Assistant Betty was awesome as well. Easy to get appt. Dr. F spent the time needed to help me understand the proposed surgery and heart issues in these 9 and 10 year old dogs. Highly recommend the facility. Happy employees and Happy Customers go hand in hand.

Clinic is nothing but a money grab the vets are willing to guess on diagnosis without the proper test to verify. No discharge care or after care process is provided unless your willing to hospitalize your animal. Our girl Died from something going on in her intestines and the vets never ordered Images or bloodwork mowing she just recovered from parvo those are The first steps that should be have done with the symptoms we were dealing with 2 weeks later at our request bloodwork and images were ordered, and it was too late. The negligence they allow is truly sad it cost my family thousands of dollars and in the end we lost our precious girl. Corporate Greed got ahold of our small town clinic.
