How to Save Money at Arcadia Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My cat was prescribed a round of antibiotic with the idea of giving him a low dose long term per Dr. brackens instruction. I contacted this clinic on December 26 after my cat’s condition worsened following a week of antibiotics. I left a message with their answering service and received no response. When I called again after the holidays I was told the phones were down. I then went in person to pay my bill and ask what to do next, as my cat was getting worse. I was told the doctor would follow up with me. That never happened. Over two weeks later, I still have received zero communication, while my cat continues to decline. Because of the lack of follow-up, I am forced to seek care at another veterinary practice. This experience was extremely distressing, and it highlighted how critical communication and follow-up are when treatment does not work.

It has taken me a year to write this review because reliving the heartache of losing my best friend and dog, Hollywood, due to Arcadia Animal Clinic's actions, haunts me daily. Hollywood was a patient there for 12 years. Two years ago, he began having seizures and required emergency veterinary care. Thankfully, he recovered after a severe episode—it was a miracle he survived. He was prescribed Keppra (seizure medication), which he needed long-term. After nearly a year seizure-free, Dr. Bracken refused to refill his prescription due to an $800 outstanding bill, despite my explanation of financial hardship following the $3,500 emergency vet visit. They falsely claimed that he would have to have a blood test taken and demanded payment before doing so and before refilling, knowing that abruptly stopping Keppra could trigger seizures. On the second day of not having access to his seizure medication, Hollywood suffered another severe seizure episode, requiring three days of emergency care and over $6,000 in vet bills. I had to create a GoFundMe to help cover the expenses to keep my baby alive. He was stable enough to come home, but he lost his mobility and strength completely, and a month later, he passed away in my arms, unable to recover from the seizures caused by the lack of his medication. Dr. Bracken's refusal to refill his prescription over $800, despite my prior payment history and financial difficulties, is unconscionable. He falsely claimed a mandatory annual blood test requirement, which was untrue; Hollywood had been in for a visit 5 months prior and had a blood test then. It was as simple as Dr. Bracken calling in the prescription to Safeway Pharmacy, yet he decided that the $800 I owed was far more important than ensuring Hollywood remained seizure-free. I grieve for Hollywood every day. I urge others to avoid Arcadia Animal Clinic, as they prioritize money over animal welfare. Their negligence contributed to Hollywood's death. Their subsequent letter dismissing us as patients, after our threat to report them, was an insult. I will never forgive them and will curse their name till the day I die. My dog was my everything, and he deserved so much better.

We love Dr Bracken and his staff. Always quick to help with questions and easy to understand when they give directions or suggestions for our pets. A true neighborhood vet.

Dr. Bracken runs an amazing practice. His staff is courteous, friendly, efficient and efficacious. There is a reason pet owners from all over the valley make the trip to this centrally located practice, it is simply excellent. Add a great location and ample parking onsite and it is always an easy in and out. Dr Bracken won't overload his practice with too many patients so he always has time to communicate with the loving owners of his furry clients. If you can get your pet into this practice you are truly lucky. My Beagle, Harvey, has been taken care of by Dr Bracken for over 12 years and we couldn't be happier with the service at this office. Well done!

Dr. Bracken, his staff, and his clinic are nothing short of incredible. Honest, kind, caring. No BS corporate stuff, no pushing unneeded things for extra money. He truly cares about animals as well as the owner of the animals. I don't know how he does it, but he is the best. As long as we are in Arizona, our pup Griffey won't go anywhere else. Thank you so much for your love and care of animals and people!
