How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Homestead Animal Clinic
Preventive care
Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.
Compare prescription pricing
Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.
Consider pet insurance
Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Getting to Know Your Veterinarian
Choosing a veterinarian is an important decision for pet parents. A strong vet relationship is built on trust, communication, and understanding your pet’s individual needs.
Experience
Ask whether the clinic has experience treating your specific type of pet, since care can vary between dogs, cats, and pocket pets.
Emergency Care Procedures
It’s helpful to understand how the clinic handles after-hours emergencies, including whether they provide emergency services or refer to nearby emergency hospitals.
Communication Preferences
Ask how the clinic communicates with pet parents, including updates, test results, and follow up questions.
Breed Specific Health Considerations
Some breeds may be more prone to certain health conditions. Early awareness can help with prevention and early treatment.
Facility Tour
If available, touring the clinic can help you and your pet feel more comfortable before the first visit.

New to the area and are so relieved to have found a vet we trust! Our Great Dane started having issues a month after we got here. He’s been to Urgent Care, internal medicine, and another primary vet. All the tests were done and $5K later, not any solid answers :/ We found Dr Weir and he was able to take the medical history coupled with his own examination to give us the best explanation of what likely is going on that we’ve received yet. Plus, he laid out a reasonable plan of action that didn’t involve throwing spaghetti at the wall by ordering every possible test. We appreciate his thorough exam without pushing us to spend more money on tests that likely wouldn’t give us answers. He’s honestly the best vet we’ve seen for the 12 years we’ve had dogs. Thank you, Dr Weir!

I love this veterinarian, he is very caring and explains things so you understand what they are doing for your animal. The vet techs are very nice and very helpful too. We have been going to Dr. Hunt since 1998 when we got our golden retriever puppy. He was there for us when we had to let him move on to the next life too. Very caring and kind veterinarian.

I have been bringing my dogs to homestead animal clinic for several years- and my husband’s family has been taking their own dogs for over 10+ years to this clinic. They are truly like family- much more professional than your family though… thank you for carefully spaying my girl this year.

Our family has been coming here since 2008 with varying pets as they have crossed the rainbow bridge. From mixed warehouse cats to AKC-grade dogs, they care for all with deep love. I will happily continue to bring my family here as long as I have them.

We have been with Homestead for several years now, Dr Weir has been such an incredible blessing in helping us to keep our dogs all healthy. He was able to help us get almost 3 extra years with our senior dog and helping to manage her terminal medical condition during those years. We will continue to go to him for our younger dogs for many years to come & highly recommend Homestead Animal Clinic
