How to Save Money at Animal Health Services of Cave Creek

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I brought my dog there a couple months ago because they were able to get him in same day (which is rare for vet clinics) and he was in a lot of pain. They took fabulous care of him over the course of a couple weeks, even calling me days in a row to check on him. Both Dr. Erb and Dr. Forrest were friendly, professional, compassionate, and knowledgeable. The vet techs who also spent a whole day with him while he received IV pain meds were fantastic. All around, it was the best vet experience I've ever had!

Our new pound puppy who had just been spayed 10 days earlier was still lethargic and not getting any better. We were traveling back up to Washington for the summer and on a tight budget, so we called around the Phoenix area. The Animal Health Services of Cave Creek had the best offer! Since we were new customers they would see Phoenix, (that's our pups name) for $25. The ladies there were so good with her! Phoenix is a Pit Bull mix and unfortunately they get a bad rap, but the ladies didn't judge and treated us with respect. By the end of the appointment the assistant was on the ground playing with Phoenix and giving her loves. She loved the attention but we found out she had kennel cough, along with an ear infection. We had adopted her 10 days ago and the folks at the pound failed to treat her for these issues. The ladies at Cave Creek were also able to prescribe an alternative medicine for the infection at half the cost. I couldn't be more pleased with everyone at the Animal Health Services of Cave Creek. If we ever have a sick animal and are in the area, we will definitely be taking our pets there.

We love Dr. Erb, not only is he a great veterinarian, he and his family are good friends. Our daughter had us take her golden to him, I took a photo and she was very impressed that he sat on the floor with Daisy, Daisy seemed to be anxious and he addressed that. .

I brought my dog in because one of my cats scratched her in the eye and they were able to get her right in to get looked at! Everyone there including the doctor were so nice and gave me all the medicine I needed for her eye. They are also very affordable which is a plus! I highly recommend bringing your animal in to Animal Health Services, they have been amazing!

Yesterday I had to put my beautiful baby Bailey to sleep. We called the vet we have been taking her to for the past 8 years (she was only 8). They said their next appointment was in a week or we could come in and wait for who knows how long for something to open up. We couldn't do that to ourselves or our dog. They had no compassion or sympathy for us whatsoever. So, my husband called Animal Health Services of Cave Creek. They said they could fit us in right away. They had never seen us before, yet they were so caring and compassionate as I cried my eyes out. It was not easy making the decision to end our dog's life... Dr. Smith assured us we were not bad parents, and we were doing the right thing. I want to say thank you to Dr. Smith and Tamie at Animal Health Services of Cave Creek for treating us with such kindness and compassion. I will never again go back to our old vet.
