How to Save Money at Jacksonville Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I want to express my deepest gratitude to every single person at Jacksonville Animal Hospital for the compassion, care, and kindness they showed my Finn during his final days. Losing him has been one of the hardest moments of our life, but the way the staff cared for him and supported me through everything is something I will remember forever. From the moment Finn arrived, they acted quickly to make sure he was not in pain and that he had everything he needed. Even within the first 20 minutes of him being there, they were checking on him, offering him food and water, speaking to him gently, and making sure he felt safe. They moved fast on his X-rays, labs, exam, and pain management, and they kept me informed with honesty and care through every update. I never felt like I was left in the dark. When I arrived to spend time with him before saying goodbye, the staff gave me all the space I needed to hold him, talk to him, and love him through those last moments. They never rushed me or made me feel like a burden. They allowed me to sit with him for as long as my heart needed, and they treated him like he mattered. Their empathy is something I will never forget. Even though Finn was only there for two days, they treated him like he was one of their own. The tenderness they showed him, the patience they showed with me, and the genuine love they showed in such a devastating situation meant more than I can put into words. They made an unbearable moment just a little softer, and I will always be thankful for that. Thank you again to every member of the team who cared for our baby, comforted me, and gave us both dignity and compassion during a heartbreaking time. I will always remember what you did for us.

I cannot say enough good things about them. Yes, they have a busy schedule. No, things don’t always go perfectly. But every time it has mattered— JAH has shown up. In 2018, my dog got their leg amputated. Today, I show up when they open with my dog that needs put to rest and they were so compassionate, so kind. So helpful. It was done and I was leaving within 45 minutes. Thank you JAH.

Great service (although the wait was a little longer than I'd hoped) and the staff is always very sweet. 💯 I'd recommend scheduling earlier in the morning rather than a late afternoon appointment, if possible. Thanks JAH for taking such great care of Swagger.

If I could give negative stars, I would. We have brought our dogs there and never had an issue. A few weeks ago, we brought our dog for an allergy shot and xray on his leg. I was asked multiple times before I left drop-off if we wanted to get him vaccinated. I told them no and left it at that. They called me stating they needed to vaccinate. I told them no. Many times they tried pushing the vaccines and we declined. They said they would not tend to my dog if he wasn't. I asked what needed to be done to get his xrays and was told he had to be heartworm negative. I asked what it involved and was told just drawing blood. I told them to push forward with it but if anything else was done to call us. They called a few hours later and they vaccinated him with EVERY vaccine they had. I was livid. I went to pick him up and the lady lied to my face and assertively stating I authorized it. She said we even have it recorded. I asked for the recording and was denied. I was then told that we cannot return. Very very upset in how this is handled. Very upset in them pushing vaccines so hard. I will not be bringing my dog to this vet ever again and do not recommend anyone else doing so
