How to Save Money at CareVet of Crawford Road

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

You will never have a poor interaction here, everyone is so friendly and kind. My dog has had major allergy problems that Dr Sabo was able to help and clear up! They are extremely considerate especially when handling reactive patients and explain every detail of the process ensuring all issues have been addressed and providing me a pre-invoice before every appointment! This is the first vet I’ve been able to get his issues resolved at, they are amazing. I’m taking all of my pets here, we love them!

Great doc. Spotlessly clean. Easy to find and easy to park. But pricey. Shots for two 20 lb dogs were $480. That seems rather high. I will shop prices nexr year.

When I called and explained that my 11yr old lab Molly was not able to walk and we need to se a vet that day they told me to come in and they will try and work me in around 3pm. Once I arrived the staff was great and very accommodating we were able to get into a room and wait for the doctor. Once the doctor came in and looked at the condition of our dog they were able to give us options and even run further test for peace of mind. During this stressful and difficult time we received nothing but pure professionalism and support from the entire staff. I highly recommend this clinic. This will be our new vet home.

I already know these people are going to come here and try to say I’m wrong because that’s how the whole conversation went on the phone with the manager. But I brought my cat in to be seen, he’s very sick, and I disclosed twice with the rabies shot was mentioned that I did not want the cat receiving it while he was so sick. I had a separate conversation with the tech about it. During the appointment I did request basic blood work, which was performed. At checkout the price of the blood work was over $200. In my opinion that should be disclosed before services are provided being the cost. I was given any type of preinvoice or anything. I did expenses I wasn’t happy about this while there, they didn’t seem to care what so ever. I get to my car and really look at the receipt, and see that the gave my cat the rabies even tho I said twice I didn’t want it while he was so sick. I called the office a little later and smoke with the manager, and she said it was a miscommunication and they thought I said I wanted it. I repeatedly told this woman I didn’t not want it and she. Basically was calling me a liar all because her “ people “ were saying otherwise. I am annoyed at the price of my bill and the price of the blood work not being disclosed but I’m more annoyed that a vaccine was given and it can’t be taken back. So instead of saying they’ll at least take the charge for the vaccine off they argue that they can’t do anything about it. Very poor customer service. And not to mention, I didn’t even get answers as to what’s wrong with the cat. Only possible scenarios. We have to go somewhere else. I will never go back to this place, it’s not at all what it once was. It’s like they only care about money. I admitted I should have asked the price about the blood work, shame on me.. lesson learned. but they can’t even admit they were in the wrong for the misunderstanding in the rabies. Again poor customer service
