How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We had used banfield for many years but I am so disgusted by our latest experiences. We went for a check up because our dog was limping and we thought we might be having some hip dysplasia. They did X-rays and said he just had arthritis and sent him home with some antiinflammatories. A few days later he was showing signs of knuckling. I brought him back in and Dr. hayes saw him again. He walked into the clinic and when we left he was brought out in a stretcher and dumped in my car. And I was told it was because he was having issues on the slippery floor. I insisted that there were bigger issues happening and they said he needed a neurologist. My dog couldn't even stand! I don't know what happened in the couple of hours between when he went in and when he left but they did something to seriously hurt him! We wound up going to the emergency vet instead and they said he had a massive heart murmur and some sort of cervical spine injury. Nothing was said from Banfield when we were there at either visit and they had obviously missed it at all other regular appointments. They are incredibly negligent and something isn't right with Dr. hayes. I very directly asked her if he needed to be put down or if there was something else and she just told me she didn't know and we would have to help him get outside to potty. He never stood or walked again when I picked him up. I believe she just didn't want to be stuck there later right before thanksgiving. They also didn't follow up for several days after thanksgiving to see how he was doing or anything until they got the report from emergency.

We adopted our elderly cat from Forgotten Felines and had been taking her to the Carl T. Jones Banfield since we got her around 7 years ago. This past weekend (9/06/25) we had to say goodbye. From the very first visit until this last one every single person who works there has been so incredible kind, patient and understanding. My wife and I never felt unwelcome or like we were a burden. When we picked up her ashes they hugged us and told us to come back and wished us well. I have never felt so comfortable with any vet like I have them. They took such good care of us and our baby for as long as we had her. I can not recommend them enough 💜

I love Banfield Pet Hospital! I have taken my granddog, Nilla, to the Jones Valley location twice while dog sitting. Last year for an emergency when she had a skin infection, and this year for her comprehensive exam. The staff is amazing and super friendly. They are wonderful with Nilla, and very thorough. The vet provides a report of everything done during the visit. I highly recommend this Hospital and get the wellness plan for your pet. It is well worth it !

We left Banfield about a year ago! The quality of care kept going down hill! Our five year old doodle ended up with two rotten teeth! The final straw was when the manager BOLD FACED LIED TO ME regarding talking to an employee on what he said to me over the phone, only to cover for the incompetent tech. I have NO respect for liars! (I was going to not even give a one star review, but I couldn't post unless I did.)

My friend brought her late mother’s dog to Banfield for a rabies vaccine and clearly warned staff that he bites and must be muzzled. They dismissed her warnings with mockery, didn’t muzzle him, and a staff member ended up hospitalized. The vaccine was never given, and Banfield called animal control—sticking her with a $600 quarantine fee. She did everything right, but Banfield’s negligence and unprofessionalism left her punished for their mistake. I strongly caution anyone from trusting Banfield with their pets’ care.
