How to Save Money at Veterinary Medical Center
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Horne, and her entire staff are so knowledgeable, patient, loving, kind and informative not only to your pets but also to the humans LOL! We have three dogs and we wouldn't take them nowhere else you cannot beat the prices you cannot beat the service and everything they have done and prescribed for our pets has given them immediate improvements and relief. Dr. Horne was our vet for over 15yrs. We had our dog in to see her Thursday and we had to put her to sleep Saturday at MedVet in Mobile. I do not blame Dr Horne for the loss it ended up that my dog had liver tumors that started bleeding and nothing could be done. My issue? You would think after using that facility for over 15 yrs a sympathy card would have been sent. I called to let them know we lost our girl on Monday and the receptionist cut me off to say we already received the paperwork. No offer of condolences, NOTHING! MedVet sent a card with the entire staff writing a personal note. Using a different vet for my other dog who ended up grieving herself over the loss sent us a sympathy card. We had only used that vet 3 months. Needless to say I was very disappointed, shocked, hurt, and many other adjectives over this experience. I believe the main concern of Dr. Horne is not your pet but her pocketbook. I would never recommend her and if you are using Dr Horne please pay attention to her numerous staff changes. There is a reason for her constant turnover.

One of the main things that made yesterday even harder when being faced with that life and death decision was it was with a vet I didnt know. I came home from work Wed 5/15 afternoon and my dog Junior was on the floor and couldn t get up. Looked like she was having seizures. They said they couldn't fit her in. I had to take her to Bansfield who did fit her in. Robertsdale animap clinic als9 madr an opening. After tests and bloodwork she was diagnoses with cancer, vertigo and possible infection and poor prognosis for recovery even with further treatment. Labs yesterday said no platelet and low wbc. Nsaid info said use with caution in geriatric dogs and dont give to dogs with low platelets. Now the vet treating the ACL was different vet since dr hornes xray machine was down. They didnt do labs which don't hold them to since she wasnt apparently having any issue other than her leg. Now the only issue my 11 y/o shepherd dog showed signs of for awhile was arthritis and recently this past 1.5 weeks issues with her ACL in her left leg. So all this yesterday was abrupt and unexpected. Since Monday with more directed treatment and doing the NSaid again twice a day instead of once a day, Junior was doing great, walking better, eating more and more playful. Even walkes to the bed tues night for petting. I still strongly feel that her vet of 10 years should have made an opening for her yesterday. I trusted and knew that vet. Up to this point they have been an amazing clinic. But now.... i dont know. I know I'm In shock and grieving but my view has diminished. They haven't even called to check on her....

Dr. Horne and her staff have been treating our pets for the 5+ years we have lived here. This last doggie event was more serious, and my dog Bella stayed there overnight. The staff is polite and pleasant. Wait times are not long. Bella ate some peanut suet that was on the ground in our backyard and progressively became sicker over a weekend. I called the office early on Monday, and Dr. Horne returned my call quickly. We received an appointment early afternoon, and Bella was retained overnight for observation and medication. Dr. Horne is reasonably priced. Bella was able to return home the next day with clear and detailed instruction. She is back to good health. I am thankful for Dr. Horne and her staff.
