How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Tongass Veterinary Services
Preventive care
Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.
Compare prescription pricing
Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.
Consider pet insurance
Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Emergency Care Procedures
It’s helpful to understand how the clinic handles after-hours emergencies, including whether they provide emergency services or refer to nearby emergency hospitals.
Communication Preferences
Ask how the clinic communicates with pet parents, including updates, test results, and follow up questions.
Breed Specific Health Considerations
Some breeds may be more prone to certain health conditions. Early awareness can help with prevention and early treatment.

Our sweet girl, Miss Maple, got quilled on a weekend hike and Dr. Sam got us in immediately. Mind you, this wasn’t any ordinary quilling so the situation alone was stressful, but Dr.Sam and his staff were so professional and kind and supportive.

We have been here a few times with our puppies. The environment is clean and the staff are friendly. The Vet here seems knowledgeable and if you bring in a puppy will give you the puppy talk. He will give you his opinion on various things to include spay and neuter but is not pushy. We are pleased with this place and will continue to bring our pups here.

I came with my hedgehog who was very sick. Sadly there was no one on staff who specializes in small animals, which is why I give four stars instead of five. The staff was very kind and calm and the vet did examine her as an emergency case and offer euthanasia. My hedgehog died on the way home, and I left a voicemail to let them know. The next day I received a condolence card from the whole staff.
