How to Save Money at Veterinary Medical Services Corporation

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Wow, I don’t know what else to say but wow! Dr Rydberg is an amazing doctor. I was a new client and he got me in right away on a Saturday! Daisy (& I) will continue to be a client of his from now on. I have never felt so at ease for my dog. He was very sweet, kind and careful with my tiny pupper. He explained everything to me thoroughly and put me at ease. He answered all of my questions and was an advocate for my dog and her health. I really appreciate that. 12/10 would recommend.

I have had my pets as patients of Dr. Rydburgs previously. Sadly, he had to put 2 of my dogs down, years apart. The first dog was a little spaniel mix. I took her into the office 3 times before I could let her go. Her name was Coco. Coco quietly slipped away. Our second dog was a yellow lab mix. His name was Casey and he had developed bone cancer. Casey told me when it was time and we took him to the Lake Geneva office. Dr. Rydburg came out to our van , and my 3 almost adult children and I held him as Dr. Rydburg found his vein and administered the sedative. Casey quietly slipped away. No trauma. A few weeks ago I knew I had to have my Springer Spaniel mix put to sleep. She fought as long as she could but at 16 she was done fighting. She wasn't diagnosed with any ailment. She had lived a beautiful, loving life with us. She filled the void in my heart after my husband passed. Once again, remembering how gentle Dr. Rydburg was with our precious dogs, I reached out to his office to have Abby put down. His Lake Geneva office was more run down and dirty than I had remembered it. But, Abby had had 2 strokes that morning and she was ready to go over the Rainbow Bridge. I trusted him to make her transition quiet and peaceful. IT WAS EVERYTHING BUT! I will never forget how much she cried in pain. I have never heard her cry out in pain like that. And, it lasted until she finally collapsed on the painted white table. He did not go into her vein as he and other vets that we've had put or fur babies to sleep. Instead, it was a stab in her side. It has been 6 weeks as I'm writing this and I will NEVER forgot her crying out in pain. I am heartbroken that I put her through such pain and I will never recommend or cross Dr. Rydburg 's path again. We even had to help him put her little limp body in a large, black plastic trash bag! Thankfully, we left before he completely stopped her heart. I don't know what has happened to this once gentle, caring vet. But, I am so disappointed in how my beautiful baby girl was sent over the Rainbow Bridge. I will never forgive myself or him.

The receptionist Jenny and Dr rydberg where both very sweet and caring. The vet clinic was a bit of a drive but honestly worth it because the prices are great compared to where I live now. It is a small place and I am pretty sure it's just him working there so I am a bit surprised they got me in same day. I definitely recommend the clinic because its affordable and the staff is friendly.

Dr. Rydberg was the only vet to actually give me amazing medical advice for my dog late at night. His advice was honest and practical. I was recently going to another vet but after tonight I would absolutely love to have my dogs be patients of his. Its hard to come by honest doctors who truly care.

Dr Rydeberg is a professional, pleasant and reasonably priced vet. Front desk staff is friendly, and Robbie their shop cat is adorable! We take our cats there and will continue to in the future. Highly recommend.
