How to Save Money at Kitty Hawk Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I had a great experience at Kitty Hawk animal hospital. The staff was very courteous. Of course it was helpful that I brought in a litter of seven adorable puppies. The appointment process was pretty painless, and went quickly. They took very good care of the puppies. Will definitely be going back. Thank you to the entire staff for all your help.

I been coming here since 2005. I have NEVER had a bad experience with any person at this clinic. Dr. Horger is my absolute favorite vet, but I have seen other vets there and they are just as nice and very knowledgeable as well. I've taken all my fur babies here, including my families and will continue to as long as they are there!

I got my female kitten spayed and for THE SECOND TIME our cat came home covered in pee. The first time happened less than a year ago with our male cat. So this time, we made sure to ask the front if she had the opportunity to use the restroom and they said, “we USUALLY decompress their bladders.” Okay why “usually” and not always? Do y’all sometimes just not do it? Also what time did you decompress? Was it in the morning before surgery? If you’re not going to provide the animals with a place to pee why make the pick up time so late. Now for the second time I have to have a stinky pee cat cause we’re not suppose to give them a bath for two weeks. Hopefully I can include a picture of her actual incision. She has multiple cuts from what I’m assuming came from when her stomach needed to be shave. I am very un happy and no longer trust my animals being in this hospitals care. Not to mention this place is very expensive. Multiple events like this have shown us that the people who work here hate their job and could care less about the animals (or maybe it’s just cats. It’s very hard to find a vet that doesn’t favor dogs over cats). They just want to go home. Quit your job and choose a different field, maybe one with less customer service cause y’all are not the best at it.

Please do not ever take your animals here. My dog Mia got really sick last month she started to become lethargic had difficulty breathing and could hardly move so we brought her to kitty hawk animal. They admitted her and told us that she had diabetes and kept her for 5 days. Everyday that we went to visit we noticed she was looking sicker than we brought her in. She still couldn’t breathe very well and all they told us was that they were treating her for her diabetes and that everything else is fine even after us bringing up our concerns about her other symptoms. They never did any actual testing other than her blood sugars and sent her home on the 5th day because they wouldn’t be open on Sunday and there would be no one to look after her over the weekend. When we got her back she was still extremely sick and her breathing had gotten worse so we took her to an emergency vet where within hours they told us she had an autoimmune disease that was killing her. Kitty Hawk Animal Hospital charged us 2500 dollars to leave her in that terrible condition for days. We gathered as much money as we could to pay the emergency hospital (another 2900 dollars) but it was to late and we had to put Mia down that next day. The people at the emergency vet took immediate action to help Mia as soon as we got there while Kitty Hawk left her suffering for 5 days. So please do not ever take your animals here they will not get the proper care and this hospital is only worried about getting your money.

This animal hospital is THE BEST! I was referred here by the breeder that I purchased my Corsos from. Every single time I come here, I’m greeted with a smile and kindness. Check in is seamless and organized. The building and rooms are always very clean. I never have to wait for my scheduled appointment time. Every staff member I encounter from the front desk, to the technicians, to the doctors are absolutely amazing! They are attentive, they listen to your concern and actually address them, and are so gentle and loving to our babies. I won’t go any other place for my dogs! Great job guys!!!
