How to Save Money at Spring Hill Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I can’t express my gratitude enough to Springhill for helping me through the hardest week of my life. They did everything in their power to help save our sweet Millie and provided the best care not only to her but to me as well. Dr. K was kind and honest throughout the entire process. Keeping me informed and guiding me with the best options to help save our girls life. She did everything she could and thought of all options. When it was time to put her down, she was very comforting and gentle with the entire process. Marlene was one of our babies nurses and she took such great care of our girl, sacrificing her Easter weekend to help. She allowed me to come whenever I was able and even spend the night at the facility and help take care of Millie- I am so grateful for that time to be with her. She kept me up to date throughout the week via text. I know she cared dearly for our girl and she was there for her and I when it was time to say goodbye. Vidi, another one of her nurses, was one of a kind and she definitely loved our girl like her own. She was beyond comforting and kept me in the loop the entire time via text and calls. She also sacrificed her time and weekend to ensure Millie was well taken care of. She helped make arrangements for me to stay at the vet clinic and set up a little pallet for Millie and I to snuggle on. I am so thankful for her, this week would have been unbearable without her. Aside from her doctor and nurses tending to her, everyone else in the office was wonderful as well. You could tell they were all hopeful and rooting for our girl. I will always trust this clinic with the care of my current (shilo) and future fur babies.

I took my puppy here and less than 18hrs later she passed away. They ran several test that came out to be almost $300. They told me she had 4 different types of worms and her blood cell count was low. They also did a parvo test that came out negative. I felt the parvo test was unnecessary because none of her symptoms point toward that. I took her home and noticed she was feeling worse so I stayed up and did research and realized she had a very low chance at making it. 18hrs after her appointment and she died. That night I myself could see she didn’t have a good chance statistically and by watching her behavior and understanding what it meant. All this to say, if they knew she wasn’t going to make it, which I’m sure they did, then why not just inform me? I’m convinced they just wanted the money and didn’t care enough for my puppy or me. So with a broken heart, I say to you, please don’t bring your loved fur babies here.

Wonderful people who genuinely care for my Maggie Mae in helping to keep her healthy and happy. I've been bringing her here for a number of years now and never once has there been any cause for complaint. She recognizes the wonderful people here and is quite comfortable with them. They love ❤️Maggie 🐾, I won't take her anywhere else.🌟
