How to Save Money at PAZ Veterinary West

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Absolutely wonderful experience! My dog has a very difficult time around strangers, but Paz did exactly what he needed giving him space as we entered the building and ignoring him to allow him to settle in without feeling scared that someone would try to interact with him. We had a great appointment with Dr. Sirois! It was a long appointment and he was very nervous at first, but he eventually got so comfortable that he started asking for treats from Dr. Sirois and he didn't have any reactions! Which is a vet visit first for us. It was wonderful to be able to talk through his medical and behavioral history and I left the visit feeling very optimistic about the treatment plan we discussed and the options we have available to help him. Dr. Sirois listened to my concerns so empathetically and I can't even describe how wonderful it felt to talk to someone who so fully understands both his medical issues and his behavioral struggles. I also really appreciated the detailed visit summary that was sent after the appointment. I can't wait to see what the future brings as we continue to work with Dr. Sirois.

Several months ago we began using PAZ West's veterinarian services for our two dogs... an 80 pound Lab mix and an 8 pound terrier mix. During that time we/they have identified several issues that needed to be addressed including an infected growth near the anal gland of our large boy and the need for a possible tooth extraction on our little girl. To this point we are very impressed with all aspects of the treatment we are receiving to include the thoroughness of the information gathering and diagnostic assessment processes, their considerate efforts to fully inform the "parents" of the recommended treatment and the costs thereof, their concern for minimizing the anxiety level of the patients when preparing them for "scary" procedures (injections, blood draws, etc), and the competence of both Dr. Pullen and the staff in performing the treatments. Very impressed with the overall operation.

I LOVE Paz!! The staff is so wonderful & genuine. And Dr.Pullen is a phenomenal vet!! I was first drawn in by their uniquely awesome design/brand, they do titter testing & that they are fear free certified, and have stayed for the service! I was devastated when my first vet stopped practicing, and I was terrified I wouldn’t find another vet that would be able to understand me, have patience and respect my insatiable curiosity to be the best pet parent I can be. I am SO grateful I found Dr. Pullen!!! He is able to put my mind at ease, as I am a very protective dog mom. He always answers all of my questions thoroughly so I can understand exactly what is going on with my baby, and I can feel confident making the best decisions for him. He is so friendly, respectful, knowledgeable, patient and passionate about his work! And that is no small feat. He’s great with the human and the pet!! He has been a life saver and I would literally drive from anywhere just so we can go to a vet visit with him. Thank you so much for everything!!

I’ve been a PAZ client for several years now and this was the first time I’ve been to PAZ West. I have to say, this is by far and away the best PAZ location out of all of them! Dr. Pullen and Vet Tech Ari were empathetic to my concerns and provided multiple solutions to get the best treatment for my dog Olive. They showed incredible care and went above and beyond in every aspect. They made a life long loyal client in me from the very first impression and I won’t be taking Olive anywhere else… thank you PAZ West!

This is now my third vet visit. You NEED to take your dog to this vet. My dog is reactive with other dogs and sometimes weird around vets. She has done amazing here. Better at any other vet she has been to. They are so cautious and don’t make me feel uncomfortable for having a reactive dog. I will forever stay at this vet they are so accommodating. Our most recent visit was to get Silva spayed. And they did so well with her, techs were amazing. Special shout out to Neythan, Dr. pullen, and also the other female tech with the short brown hair. (I’m sorry for forgetting her name). The techs did an amazing job with her and Dr.pullen was so nice to me and my baby. Keep doing what you guys are doing your staff is amazing
