How to Save Money at Orchard Hill Vet Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We are indebted to Dr. Lane for the excellent care she provides the animals on our farm (dairy cow, sheep, livestock guardian dogs). She is whip-smart, quick to correctly diagnose problems and recommend pragmatic solutions. Our animals respond very well to her calm and reassuring manner.  Dr. Lane and her staff are skilled, responsive, and kind, and we are very pleased with their services.

Dr. Lane impresses me with both her professionalism and her genuine care for animals. She and her staff are clearly committed to what they do, and the whole clinic has a welcoming, hometown atmosphere. Thank you all for taking such great care of Dolly!

I am absolutely impressed with Dr.Lane and the entire staff at Orchard Hill Vet Clinic! My pet and I were treated with the utmost compassion and concern. I was very emotional upon my arrival, as I had assumed that there was nothing that could be done to save my sweet fur baby, and a humane euthanasia was the only option. Dr. Lane listened to my concerns in a patient and respectful manner, and did not dismiss my distress. She was very patient, kind, and supportive as she did a very thorough examination of my sweet senior little guy, and made suggestions for options that could possibly help him. She was honest about her professional opinion, but did not force any decision on me. At the end of the visit, we ended up bringing him home to try a few therapeutic options, instead of euthanasia, for the time being. Within two hours, my sweet boy was purring and eating for the first time in days. The final outcome of the situation remains to be seen, but at least now, whatever ultimately happens, we will have the peace of knowing that we did all that we could, without allowing needless suffering or resorting to a knee-jerk response of euthanasia. I also want to say that the atmosphere is warm and homey , and not at all sterile and not “ clinical “ feeling like every other veterinary hospital I have ever been to. UPDATE: it has been 2 weeks since the original episode which rendered my 13 1/2 year old cat essentially paralyzed in both hind legs. Thanks to Dr.Lane’s professional treatment and advice, he is well on his way to recovery.. he is walking , using the litter box, climbing up to the recliner, enjoying lazy afternoons sunning himself on his window perch, purring loudly and vigorously, and slowly regaining his appetite. Best of all for me, he and I are enjoying our long , lazy snuggles in our recliner, often napping together as he purrs so loudly that he actually wakes me up! I can never thank you enough, Dr.Lane and staff❤️. LATEST UPDATE: it has now been 4 weeks since the day I took my sweet little buddy to Orchard Hill, thinking that I was going to be saying “ goodbye “, as he crossed over the rainbow bridge… but, thanks to the medical and surgical expertise of Dr. Lane and her amazing compassionate staff, my little guy is once again enjoying his lazy afternoon naps , gazing out at the world from his window seat, and nightly snuggles with us…,he is definitely back to being his sweet lil’ ol’ self , and we look forward to more time together to continue “ living the good life”…

Welcome to Mayberry, ok, Inman but the old time neighborly feel is here! Sit in the front room and chat while waiting for your appointment. Great pricing and meticulous service to diagnose the norm or the rare problem with your animals. Also a livestock mobile vet so your farm animals are healthy! Goat, cat, dog, horse, cow and a few other critters maybe…… glad we have such a versatile vet .
