How to Save Money at Hidden Valley Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Hidden Valley has been taking care of my two dogs for several years. I have never had a bad experience. Every interaction has been professional and the vets ALWAYS seem educated and are always more than willing to run tests if I am concerned about something. When I call, they work with my crazy schedule to fit my dogs in where it is possible. I know they’re a smaller clinic with limited hours, I don’t always get in when I absolutely want, but that’s life! If it’s something illness related, we are always taken care of either the same day or within a day or two. To me, that’s reasonable scheduling - they have other animals to care for as well (note: If I’m truly worried, I’ll take them to an emergency vet). This past Friday my one dog had a tooth extraction. While I was worried, I trusted the vet and the staff to take good care of my dog. And they did. And still do. I highly recommend Hidden Valley Animal Clinic!

Our family and pug have been going here since she was a puppy, she is now 12. The entire staff is incredible and caring. The doctors are very informative and explain everything in terms you can understand. One of our favorite Vet Techs is Aubrey - she takes such good care of Clementine our Pug.

I have been using Hidden Valley for about 4 years for my pets and have nothing but good things to say about them. Dr. Thierry Clermont and Dr. Threadgill have been our primary vets for 3 dogs and 2 cats. Dr. Clermont took a lot of his time with us 4 years ago when we were trying to find a vet willing to see our human aggressive dog, Hero. The first visit was all about meeting hero and building a trusting bond without causing him any stress with shots or a physical exam. That's when we made our decision to continue with them. Both doctors mentioned above always make us feel heard and take their time explaining what is going on with our pets so we understood. We have dealt with major ear and yeast infections, cancer, urinary incontinence, seizures, crystals in the urine, and gastrointestinal issues along with normal routine visits. We have no complaints about our experiences. Our problems were always addressed and given realistic expectations without false hope, but they always did it with compassion. With Vet offices being so short staffed, it is hard sometimes to be seen but I fully understand them taking last minute appointments based on priority and urgency. Even when my two main vets are not available I have been able to be seen by other vets and have never had a bad experience. Noone ever makes us feel rushed during our appointments and they truly take their time with the animal in front of them. Last year I adopted a severely fearful, some would call her feral, dog and they adjusted their physical examination based on keeping the dog comfortable. I was so happy to see that. I could go on and on as to why I recommend this vet office. But at the end of the day all I can say is the entire staff, from friendly-polite office staff, knowledgeable technicians and professional vets makes this the best vet office around! If you are looking for a vet look no further.

I brought my Ella here a year ago for a minor/ simple complaint of what felt like a fast heartbeat at times. She was completely normal, happy and healthy. Within 2 months of my sweet girl going to Hidden Valley she was dead, due to the incompetence and irresponsible decision making of the vets we saw there. The first vet told me Ella had a pretty loud 4/6 heart murmur and talked me into medication for her. The vet told me she was confident with the diagnosis and didn’t think any further tests (x-ray, bloodwork) would be necessary at that time, we could hold off and potentially consider it for a future follow up appointment. I had to take Ella in for an emergency appointment only days after starting the medication. She became deathly ill. The second vet we saw that day was very confused and unorganized. He said to stop the medication immediately. They would consider trying a different medication for Ella. Again was not offered any testing (x-ray, bloodwork) just told to stop the medicine. I decided to take Ella for another opinion, and that same day at the new vet appointment we finally got the answers, because they ran the correct tests for Ella, and did what they were supposed to, we got referred to the right doctor to see and a new treatment plan. I thought we were going to be back on track, but the decisions the Vets made at Hidden Valley to put my Ella on the wrong medication and then tell me to stop a medication that cannot be stopped like that, killed my best friend. They have no right to be attempting to treat animals with dire conditions. When I asked for Ella’s vet notes it was no surprise to me the nonsense I read. Each note states that I refused/ declined x-ray and further tests at that time. The best note they wrote was the second vet questioning the need for an assessment to determine if Ella even needed the medication at all, but yet still sent us home. I have to live with the fact that I trusted these people to take care of and fix the one thing in this world I loved most. But instead they killed her. Now they get to go on with their lives as if it never happened. Not only for this Vet but any vet you choose to go to, make sure you get your papers!!! The documents, notes everything! This is a business and it’s all about money, they do not care if they kill your pet. Don’t learn the hard way like I had to. These snakes don’t tell you everything.

Very happy with the care our dog receives here. As he’s gotten much older he’s needed additional care and they have been excellent throughout that process. They always take the time to explain things clearly and answer all of our questions. As for the front-end staff - they have never been anything but amazing with us. Very friendly. Very helpful. The past few years have been stressful for everybody, so a little kindness shown to those providing a service these days goes a long way.
