How to Save Money at Mt. Zion Animal Clinic and Boarding

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Finally changed from our Chillicothe vet to Mt. Zion after moving to Jackson a few years ago. Everyone was friendly and helpful well beyond my expectations. I was given a tour of the facilities without asking, and even though I was only there for boarding and a vaccine for our dog they suggested heart worm and tick disease testing because of trends in the area. Turns out our dog has Lyme disease that we would have gone on not treating. Dr. Kidd met with me personally to go over the results and plan for how we will further test and treat moving forward. I could not be happier with our move to Mt. Zion Animal Clinic.

Thr only vet clinic in will ever take my pets to! Dr Kidd and her girls gave my old boy the best care, especially in his last few months of life. He was treated like family until the end where they cried right with us when he left. Now with our next shepherd, they have given only the best care and options for him. We don't hesitate to call when we have concerns knowing we will only receive the best care. Deanna at the front desk treats everyone like family and makes sure you feel right at home. Also, nurse Autumn knocks the socks off any other clinic in the county!! We adore her and her dive right in attitude. 🥰

Making my pets yearly wellness visits I have realized I never left a remark or a review on the amazing care we recieved from Mt. Zion Animal Clinic & Boarding. Worth way more then 5 stars. It was here that I said goodbye to my beloved dog, who had been my constant companion for 10 years. Our regular veterinary clinic couldn’t see her quickly despite her immense suffering. In desperation, I called Mt. Zion, and they welcomed us in immediately. Their kindness and compassion during those final moments meant everything to me. They not only took care of our pet with the dignity she deserved but also extended their empathy to me and my family. A handwritten card arrived in the mail —a simple gesture that brought comfort during an incredibly painful time, that card still sits on my memorial shelf. They now and will forever have my familys support and my pets as patients. Thank you Dr. Kidd, & Staff at Mt. Zion. ❤️

My experience happened over a year ago and I'm still upset about it. Dr. Kidd was rude and condescending when we brought our sick cat in. She guilted us into paying for tons of tests that (after seeking a second opinion) my cat didn't need. She's extremely expensive. Her staff was very kind and I appreciated their help, but she deserves her reputation for being uncaring. She barely looked at our cat and had zero interest in educating us about what was wrong with him. I never write bad reviews, but after just having a really good experience at another vet's office and seeing the difference compassion can make, and recently hearing from a friend who also had a poor interaction with Kidd, I wanted to put my two cents out there. Edit: It won't let me respond directly to the reply below, but the encounter was probably under one of my parent's names or even my brother who made the appointment. I'm not confusing the vet's office. I know who Dr Kidd is.

Dr Kidd and her staff took wonderful care of our Hannah for the 10 years we had her. She and her staff sat on the floor with my husband and Hannah as we had to say goodbye to her. There was ABSOLUTELY no question who our vet would be when we welcomed our new puppy Isabelle to our family.
