How to Save Money at Garden State Veterinary Services Woodbridge

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I had a great experience at this emergency vet with my dog. I took him in because he had been vomiting and diarrhea for 6 days and we noticed blood in it. We saw Dr Arye and she was very nice, listened to my concerns and suggested how we should proceed. I did ask the cost of each thing we were doing to not be surprised with a monster bill at the end. I was seen right away and we were checking out a little over an hour with everything. Dr Arye also suggested we switch his food and gave us a few cans to try and thankfully my dog loved the food and he will stay on it as long as he’s feeling good. Dr Arye was kind and compassionate, we hope to see her again if we have an emergency. I thought the prices were fair and all tests were explained to me before hand. The office called me with test results as they came back and they called to see how my dog was feeling. Thankfully all the meds that were prescribed to him helped and he’s feeling better. I highly recommend GSVS Woodbridge emergency vet.

I want to share my experience regarding a recent interaction while searching for orthopedic care for my dog. I want to clarify that my pet has never been treated at Garden State Veterinary Hospital (GSVH-Woodbridge). When I first called to make an appointment with their orthopedic specialist, the receptionist was a bit abrupt, which made me uncertain about proceeding. However, I made an appointment for my dog to be seen. I continued my search for a facility with a more welcoming atmosphere; I found Redbank Animal Hospital. The receptionist there was incredibly personable, which gave me a bit of reassurance. After a 50-minute drive for an evaluation at Redbank, I felt confident that this would be the right place for my dog’s surgery and ongoing care. As a courtesy, I decided to call GSVH to cancel my appointment. Unfortunately, I encountered the same receptionist, and after identifying myself and explaining the reason for my call, I was placed on hold for over 20 minutes without a follow-up. I eventually had to hang up due to the wait. Today, I got a text to confirm my 04.11.25 appointment (the same one I called to cancel prior). Hence, I called again to ensure the appointment was canceled, this time getting a receptionist who seemed much more welcoming. However, I will maintain follow-up and care at Redbank. This experience emphasizes the importance of customer service in building a successful business. A positive interaction can significantly influence a client's decision and loyalty.

Our dog, Rex, had a very complex mass in his colon that needed removal. After much research, we decided to trust GSVS with our boy. He ended up having a colon resection, which is considered a major surgery. We had our consult with Dr. Pintar, who came highly recommended. He did not disappoint. He spent time with us reviewing Rex's case, imaging, and medical records and gave us all treatment options and helped us weigh out pros and cons. He is extremely knowledgeable and helped guide us through this scary process. When we ultimately decided to move forward with the surgery, Dr. Pintar helped to facilitate and schedule the surgery with Dr. Park within the practice. Dr. Park is a brilliant surgeon who walks you through what to expect and spends the time to answer any questions you might have. I knew right away Rex would be in great hands with her. Surgery went smoothly and communication was great from Dr. Park. Rex was there for two nights to recover and the staff was always happy to provide us with updates on how he was doing. Dr. Murphy would call us each morning to provide an update and it gave us so much peace of mind. Rex is now 4 weeks post op and doing amazing! Rex means everything to us, and the phenomenal care he received at GSVS impressed us so much! We are so happy he had such a great outcome, and are eternally grateful to the GSVS staff. We highly recommend GSVS for any of your pets needs!

Dr. Murphy was amazing! She came is showing compassion, was gleaming with confidence in her skills and profession and communicated with clear and concise expectations and instructions.
