How to Save Money at Animal & Bird Health Care Center & Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Animal and Bird Healthcare is the absolute pinnacle of veterinary care. I have six pet birds and I travel from the suburbs of Philly to Cherry Hill because there is no other place I’d trust with their well-being. It’s not a stretch to say that Dr. Dazen is one of the (if not THE) best Avian vet(s) in the country and he’s got the acronyms behind his name to back it up. What’s more than his certifications though is the fact that he genuinely cares about each and every animal he sees. The team of certified vet technicians behind him are just as good and care just as much. Tara and Heather are experts at handling animals and safely manipulating them during their exams (as well as soothing them with little pets on the head during the whole process). Candy, Taylor, and the rest of the ladies up front are kind and courteous when getting you set up for your appointments over the phone, checking you out after your appointments, and even calling you the morning after to see how your pet is feeling. In keeping with the whole theme here… they really care about your pets too. And when that awful, inevitable day comes where you’re faced with saying goodbye to the cherish companion you came in with, they’ll be there to inform and guide you toward the right decision and to lean on afterwards. I could go on and on and on with positive descriptions and anecdotes about this place but suffice it to say that if you’re someone who holds your pets in same esteem as you do your human family members, this is the place for you. There is a peace of mind that comes from dealing with people who both truly care and have the highest level of technical expertise and you’ll find that here.

By far the best veterinarians and hospital in new jersey. The receptionists and the vets were extremely friendly and knowledgeable about ferrets. Ive been to multiple vets but this place is the only place I felt comfortable at. They helped with my sick ferret and also did a good job doing a checkup with my other non-sick ferret. I drove an hour and a half to visit this place from Clifton NJ and will definitely make the trip again if I need anything else for my pets. You guys are awesome, thank you 😊

I had been going to this veterinary office for over five years. I found the staff to be friendly and helpful, I genuinely enjoyed entrusting the care of my pets to them. However, two separate vet appointments, involving minor procedures, resulted in two pets passing away. The latest was by pet parakeet who died after a simple blood draw. I was particularly disappointed that it took a week to hear from the vet after I called the office with the news. While I understand that accidents can happen, because of these two tragedies and the lack of promptness in hearing from the doctor, when I get new pets, I will not be bringing them to to be cared for here.

Everyone in the office was so pleasant. There was a bit of a wait past my appointment time, before I was seen but it seemed like a very busy morning with a number of emergencies, but the staff's care for my pet made it OK. The doctor was very informative and helped show me how to cut my guinea pigs nails as I had never owned one before.
