How to Save Money at Foster Animal Hospital, P.A.

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We absolutely love Foster! 10/10 A+++ everyone is so sweet and remembers Ginger and doesn’t fat shame her. Lol! She loves going to the vet even if she has to get labs and shots. Your pharmacy online system is fantastic!

I have an anxious dog who was scheduled to be spayed. The staff was exceptional with her. They offered a plan to make this easy for her as well as myself. When I picked her up, staff members explained aftercare very clearly and answered any questions I had. The check in and check out process was easy and smooth as well. The facility was super clean, and open to allow people and pets their own space. I can’t imagine this process going any smoother at other location. Thank you all so much!!!

Foster Animal Hospital is truly the best. We have been with them for close to 10 years, and I cannot imagine trusting my animals with anyone else. My dog, Misha/Mishka/Michelle, is a paraplegic pup, and Dr. Plott has been her main veterinarian this entire time. When I adopted her, I was told she might have two more years. She is now almost 11 years old, happy, healthy for her condition, and still very much herself. Mishka is also… let’s be honest… very spicy and can be aggressive. That has never been an issue here. This hospital has always gone above and beyond to make her visits as gentle, calm, and Fear Free as possible. They do not force, rush, or judge, they adapt, listen, and care. A very special thank-you to Kaye, one of their vet techs. She is one of maybe three humans Mishka has ever truly loved. Since then, Foster Animal Hospital has consistently tried to make sure Kaye is there when we come in, and that level of thoughtfulness means everything to me. And then there is my other pet, my cat, who is literally obsessed with going to the vet. He gets excited because he knows he will be greeted with gentle care, attention, and treats. In the attached photo he is all excited about seeing his carrier which means it's a vet kind of day! That alone says so much. This is what true Fear Free veterinary care looks like. Skilled, compassionate, patient, and deeply respectful of animals as individuals. We are endlessly grateful.

The service at Foster Animal Hospital was exceptional— from the admin staff that welcomed my dog and me to Dr. Moser and her assistant. The appointment began on time and it was completed efficiently and effectively. Dr. Moser explained what was done with my dog, Pepper, and she provided all the details and next steps. Dr. Moser and the entire support staff were professional, friendly and genuine. I was comfortable from the beginning of the appointment to the end— as was Pepper. I will readily recommend Foster to anyone in need of excellent care for their pets.

Highly recommend! Deserves 8 stars. Wonderful, caring, and responsive staff all took excellent care of our cat during an emergency. Our regular vet refused to accept a walk in emergency (we will not be returning to that practice). I called several other hospitals before I tried Foster and they said to bring our cat in immediately. My only complaint would be their phone system - I think you are automatically routes by an AI agent which I found confusing, but I was also dealing with an unexpected emergency.
