How to Save Money at UrgentVet

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Incredibly thorough and kind. The staff was amazingly detailed in obtaining my dogs medical history, and wonderfully caring. They explained all treatment plans in full and even explained financing options, should it be needed. They even keep food and drinks in stock for you while they deliver quick and effective treatment to your furry little loved ones. 100/10, they turned a stressful experience into one worth sharing! (Pics are old, but thanks to UrgentVet, Cammy is close to being his old, playful self!!)

I had the best experience at Urgent Vet. My dog, Piper was not eating any food for 48 hours. Obviously very upsetting. We went to urgent vet and got in immediately. They took great care of Piper and I. Checked her temperature, weight, belly for aches and pains. Listened very carefully to what I had to say and made a diagnosis. She had licked something bad and gotten a bacterial infection. They gave her a shot and sent us home with antibiotics, prebiotics, and food for the next 2 days. Kind knowledgeable staff and great care. So thankful for this place and highly recommend.

Went in because my dog ingested spoiled deer meat the neighbor left out. Dog has 103.8 temp, vomiting, no stool reported yet, Shaking bad. We were leaving for vacation and didn’t want to wait for this to get worse. I do not believe they did a great job as a retired RVT. They gave pet an anti nauseous shot which they poked my pet 3 times to get this and part of the meds went on the ground. (Still charged full amount) Then they gave fluids and again poked the pet 4 times with wasting part of the fluids on the ground.( still charged full amount) I have a small 25 beagle who was not difficult. When she would jump from being poked with a 18g needle that was far too big the staff jumped and pulled it back out. It says affordable care. Nothing here is affordable, it would have been less expensive to go to the ER vet. I did not get prescribed prebiotics, probiotics, or antibiotics, or any bland EN. I had to send a picture of my dog’s stool to get antibiotics the next day. Which I asked for while there with the fact that she had a 103.8 fever and ingested spoiled deer meat with bacteria. I feel like for $850 a better treatment plan could have been in place and the fact that you poked my dog 7 times to give one injection and fluids.. who knows how many times with the bloodwork pokes. Probably digging around to find a vein. Also, the vet didn’t even help give treatment. Myself as the owner was asked to hold the pet. I didn’t mind, but for $850 you could do better. And no they were not busy. I was the last client of the night. My pet is also auto immune with spinal lesions down her back. The fluid injection site was lumbar back which made it very uncomfortable. The staff was aware of her auto immune and spinal lesions. Typical placement it between the shoulder blades for fluids. In our case that would have been better for the pet. The tech was super sweet and nice. We did enjoy her personality.

I had a great experience here. The staff were all so nice and assuring. I was seen right away. My puppy had a puncture wound on her throat and it looked really scary. They took such good care of my baby Stella. This was the first time I had ever been here. I have 5 dogs and 5 cats. So you can imagine how many times I’ve been to the Emergency vet office. While the Emergency vet is also great, this urgent care is better suited to our needs this time. The cost is less than an ER visit also. I highly recommend the Urgent Vet for when you can’t get your pet to their regular vet. The staff were all very knowledgeable from the Techs to the Doctor. Thanks guys! Stella is doing great. We appreciate ya’ll!

Fantastic vet! We have never heard of or been to an urgent vet before, and as first time dog owners we felt scared knowing we needed to take our pup somewhere and were anxious about the price tag. While it did cost us a little over $550 for a check up/blood work/meds that is so much better than an emergency vet would have been. The techs/vet were so personable and knowledgeable. They made us feel like our pup’s tweaked back was the most important thing. So glad to have this place within 30 minutes of us!
