How to Save Money at VCA White Lake Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Everyone there has been very kind and informative. Hannah has kept us well informed. Kindness is a rare quality in general now so is very appreciated and given by everyone there that we have talked to. Our puppy has been cared for by Dr. Elise. She is very thorough. Prices are fair. Not the cheapest but this is your loved pet, not a for sale clearance item. Dont shop for cheaper care.

I called VCA last week because my rabbit of 12 years was unfortunately dying. It was the hardest phone call I've had to make and the staff there were so patient and understanding. I made an appointment to help Ron, my rabbit, leave peacefully because he had been suffering. The ladies there explained everything to us and let us have as much time as we needed to say goodbye to our baby. They were so great. We also got Ron back 5 days later in a beautiful box with his name engraved and we had also ordered a paw print to remember him. I would recommend this place to anyone🧡

I have been taking my dogs to VCA White Lake for at least 15 years. I have great respect and much gratitude for their entire team. They have gone above and beyond on multiple occasions over the years. When I call, they know who I am and are always very accommodating even when I change appointment dates/times at the last minute. I took my youngest dog, Holly in today for some blood work and the Tech apologized to me for taking so long, mind you it was less than 5 minutes. The reason for the delay was that everyone in the back wanted to say Hi to Holly. So nice of them! 😀

This is the WORST Veterinarian Office I have ever been to!!!!Dr. Beard is great, don't get me wrong. This review is NOT ABOUT HER. This review is about The Office Manager. Here is the story. I complained about this Office's pricing structure about 3 months ago. Got a little frustrated I will admit. Also while I was questionng their pricing on a single shot, another customers dog, at the same time of my frustrations, was being turned away for very needed services, on their sick puppy, because they owed them 100.00 and didn't have the money. I personally witnessed this with my own two eyes!!!!!. Yet was allowed back in the last two appointments with Dr Beard as recently as 30 days ago. Today we are told I am not welcome any more. Nothing new had transpired since, in terms of my communication with this office. Yet the Office Manager still banned us. I also want everyone to also know they charge $37.50!!!!!!!! to give a shot that takes 3 seconds to administer...that's $750 an hour. I guess we are not allowed to question anything anymore and if we do, they don't want your business anymore. Guess what, you lost out on thousands of future dollars. IF YOU SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE...YOU ARE STUPID, BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAY THIS. I RECOMMEND YOU SPEND YOUR MONEY ELSEWHERE...ANYWHERE, I MEAN ANYWHERE, EVEN IF YOU DRIVE SEVERAL MINUTES FURTHER. Dr. Beard, Valerie and I really liked you, Sorry your Office Manager has to be so HORRIBLE!!!! The only reason why we were continuing was because we really liked Dr Beard.other than that it's not worth it!

Great experience every time I've been here. Just brought my sick kitty, and they were honest helpful and super sweet. I even got a follow up text the next day where they answered my questions. Thanks from Cuddles 🐱
