How to Save Money at Nash Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Nash and Mickey have been like family for us and our pets over the last several years. The office is small and you definitely get the personalized experience every time you are there. Not many true family practices left out there these days!! I will never forget when my first dog declined very quickly and unexpectedly, they came in on a (usually closed) Sunday in their street clothes to meet with me and discuss options and make it so my sweet girl didn’t have to suffer any longer. Their prices have always stayed very reasonable, and i’ve had no doubt my dogs have been in great hands with them, for all sorts of things from yearly check ups and vaccinations, to treatment of acute issues and even minor surgeries. Thank you Dr Nash and Mickey for all of the care you have given!

Doctor Nash has a complete love for animals. He is also very open about the care you give you pet. Mickey at the front desk is the reason Dr Nash is not doing as well as he could . I mean I have a cat who is hard to get in her carrier and I'm 71 . It's difficult . Mickey was very rude because my cat went me using my n action when i needed to leave to be there. I got up super early just i could get her organized I am very sorry I tried ! Very rude told me to find another vet .Said I cancelled 7 times? It's been 3 years since I was there !! I have never been talked to like this ever! Micky you may need to retire your not good at your job. I'm sorry I have never given a bad review. Just had to say the truth. It's been an hour and I'm still upset and hurt by her words!!

I'm torn about this vet. I've had shots done, ear infection visit, & had my girl spade here. Everything always seemed to be fine up until I had my puppy spade here. She is fine now (2 years later) but I got the feeling that the procedure was super traumatic for her. Yes I know "of course" it would be but what I mean is that she is still not afraid of shots, vet visits at other clinics, being left at the groomers, me poking & proding weekly to pluck her ear hairs & clean her eyes etc, etc, etc... She totally freaks out when we pull up here 😕 I have always wondered if the anesthesia worked or was given to her properly. She stayed overnight which was their terms. Sometimes you just have a gut feeling that can't be ignored. Cheap prices sometimes come with cheap service. I also wonder about the stocked drug expiration dates as well. Some of the staff is getting to be quite forgetful. Just put your pets in good hands is all I'm saying.

Best experience ever on the worst possible day. We had to put our dog Blaze down that we had for 14 years. Dr. Nash and his staff came highly recommended and they didn't fail. They were so kind and compassionate. This is not something you do every day and they helped us through every step. We got Blaze's ashes back within just a couple of days along with a cast of his paw print. They were just the best. Thank you Dr. Nash and staff for making this terrible situation for us a little easier to deal with.

PLACE SHOULD BE CLOSED DOWN TO NOT BRING YOUR ANIMALS HERE. Out-of-date ,and out-of-touch staff. Place looks ghetto. The vet and his wife are not of age to be running a vet buisness anymore. They rough handled my dog in front of my face when my dog was at the vet because he was hurt. Vet is rude and disrespectful. His wife is no better. Place looks run down. Not clean. After listening to my dog scream I walked out and took my dog with me. Absolutely unacceptable. TRASH.
