How to Save Money at Hartland Park Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Doctor Cundiff is extremely personable and knowledgeable on different breeds and creatures of all sizes. My cat has had a rough few weeks with different health issues and I cannot thank Dr Cundiff enough! His compassion for my cat and his understanding of the underlying issues I cannot detect that concern me is amazing. Every suggestion he’s had has helped and brought both me and my cat comfort. Also shout out to Allie for answering my worried phone calls with a great deal of kindness and understanding. Another shout out to Karen for knowing just how to handle my cat, she’s been there every visit over the past few years that I can remember and my cat is instantly soothed, even when he doesn’t feel well, by her presence. Highly recommend this office, the staff really truly care!

These guys know me and my cats by name, always respectful, and lay everything out for you. If you pet has any illness or symptom you're not sure about, Dr. Cundiff will explain every single little detail about what causes it, what it is, what to look for, and how to help your pet. I always feel like I walk out of there learning something new, he's very passionate about what he does and all the staff there loves playing and snuggling with your pets. Everyone clearly loves their jobs. Appointments are always timely too!

I wanted to change vet officess for my cat and found Dr. Cundiff. He is a pleasure and very knowledgeable! Karen the assistant was also very nice and accommodating. I'm happy we found a vet close to home and one that my cat enjoys too, she loved him! We wont go anywhere else! She even enjoyed the car ride home watching out the window which she's never wanted to do before!

I have always loved dr. Cundiff and how wonderful he is with my sweet dog. This is the first dog I have ever owned and when he was a puppy, dr. Cundiff would explain everything throughly and help me with whatever I had questions with. We shared some laughs about my rambunctious and silly pup. However, my dog is now pushing 10 years old and I was up all night with him shaking his head and digging in his ear… possible ear infection. Not a huge deal but as his momma I hate seeing him in so much pain and so uncomfortable. Given his age I am just concerned and nearly in tears as I am worried about ANY kind of infection in my animal. I called this morning and Carrie answered… she was quick to cut me off when I had questions… I asked her how much she thought it might be and she abruptly said $58 for the office visit … when I asked about what she thought the cost of the ear drops would be (we have had them before but I couldn’t remember) she quickly and rudely said I DONT KNOW and literally scoffed and laughed at me. I then asked who I might be speaking to and at first she wouldn’t say, she responded with “is 8:30am Wednesday okay with you or not?” I repeated myself and asked who I was speaking with… she finally responded and told me her name was Carrie. I asked her if it was okay that I had some questions and asked if I was bothering her(because it was so obvious in her tone of voice) and she proceeded to tell me they are busy getting dogs in for surgery… which I understand completely. I felt like such a bother and apologized for even calling. I’m in shock of how condescending and unsympathetic she was to me. I’m genuinely just really worried about my pup and that’s the one place I thought I could count on. I appreciate dr. Cundiff so much and his staff has always been nice to me but this morning she truly just made me feel worse about the situation and bad for even calling. I did keep my appointment for Wednesday, hopefully she will be a little nicer to me when I come in…I might see if there is somewhere else I can take him today though… I know that this behavior is not accepted here which is why I wrote the review, so dr. Cundiff will know. Update to my original review: I just received an email from hartland animal hospital letting me know that we are no longer welcome there at their clinic. I’m assuming that is “punishment” for leaving an honest review. When I first left the review I left two stars… if I could leave zero, I would. I am in shock to have received this email.
