How to Save Money at PriorityPet Urgent Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I cannot give enough stars for the service we received. Our Goldendoodle swallowed a piece of clothing, whole, which resulted in an intestinal obstruction. From the moment we walked in the door, Willow was treated so sweetly. Dr. Holder & her staff were professional, patient, and informative. They quickly diagnosed her and performed the surgery that saved her life! We just got home (we live an hour and a half away), but I didn’t want to go to bed without thanking them and leaving a review. Now to recover our girl, and hopefully she has learned her lesson with eating objects :(

Our dog was snake bitten at 11pm and we rushed her into their practice. They close at 12am, but stayed until 1:30am to make sure she was stable enough to come home. The staff is incredibly kind, patient and thorough. They offered me a pillow, blanket and remote to the TV when they realized it was going to be a long night. They sent their records to our normal vet immediately so it was all on file. They broke down the cost line by line, explaining what each thing was and why it was needed during the visit. No emergency vet is going to be cheap, but in the grand scheme for all that they did, the price was understandable and reasonable. It is locally owned by the doctor and manager, with the front desk/tech being related to the manager. It is soothing to know that this isn’t a huge chain that is just there to charge the hell out of you and throw you back out. They genuinely care for your pet and you as the pet parent. That makes all the difference in the world. Thank you all so much for taking care of our girl. She’s at her normal vet now per their advise and should be okay because of their quick action!

Brought my precious boy in for an injury to his private. I called ahead and Sophia was very prompt and helpful over the phone she gave me a reasonable quote for exam and explained additional fees clearly. After we arrived we were quickly brought back by Avery who helped us get comfortable in a room where Doctor Holder joined us after just a few short minutes. She told me my puppy had what’s called a hot spot and due to the nature of his injury needed an ultrasound to make sure his testicles were not seriously injured. They gave him pain medicine right away because he was very much in pain and acting aggressive. They gave him light sedation and shaved/cleaned up his private. Avery explained all of my treatment and price before moving forward with anything so I was able to understand clearly what I was paying for. They gave lots of love and cuddles to my boy and took wonderful care of him. Doctor Holder was very knowledgeable, answered all of my questions and advised me with kindness. Another manager helped check me out and suggested some anti diarrheal meds to help get my boy more comfortable. I did pay around $750 total for exam/medications/pain management/sedation/ultrasound/wake up/wound care. I felt this price was very reasonable for the quality care my puppy was given on such short notice. Thank you everyone for their kindness, professionalism and the cleanliness of this office.
