How to Save Money at Gentle Farewells - Mobile Vet In-Home Euthanasia Service

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr Hines is such a very special person. She is the most compassionate and caring Dr/Vet I have ever come across. She gave us information, she made herself available, she did not pressure or push. The second she entered our home our Paco was the priority and focus. She allowed us to have time and space. She was so loving and compassionate with him. The way Dr Hines assists with their passing is the kindness way you can imagine. She offered healing words to us that also made all the difference. I have told everyone I know with aging pets, she should be the only option! Dr Hines is a very very very special person

Dr. Hines was very amazing and helped my sweet rabbit Potatoes. She gently explained the process and took time/answered questions and wanted to hear about her story. My rabbit was fighting and took longer/needed an extra dose but she didn't make it a big deal and kept the appointment very peaceful. She offered a prayer and comfort at the end of the appt. I didn't understand what they meant when they said having an at home appt would be peaceful until I used her services this day. I hope that you never have the need but if so I would highly recommend her. This is the best vet to help your pet transition in a peaceful and respectful manner. I got a care package after which was such a nice touch. Thank you so much again.

Dr. Hines , is a god send. I am greatful for her gentleness and kindness during the hardest moment of my life. I had to put my baby girl Jay Jay down after 18 amazing years, It made a terrible situation just a little easier. She is worth every dollar and I can not thank her enough for what she does and for helping me put my grumpy baby girl to rest in the most peaceful and stress free way.

I honestly do not know how to put into words how much my husband and I appreciate Dr. Hines. We knew our sweet cat Bimmer had begun to dramatically decline and after a lot of research, we made the decision to call Gentle Farewells. Absolutely the best choice we could have made. We do not have human children, so Bimmer filled that space for 19 years. Nineteen years of sweet meows, nudges, biscuits, playing, cuddles, and all of the other amazing things our girl brought to our lives. Bimmer actually went out on her terms, passing away in our arms while Dr. Hines was in route. However, once Dr. Hines arrived I cannot adequately express the kindness and tenderness she showed our little girl. She took time to talk to us and listen to all the things that made Bimmer our girl. Dr. Hines’s compassion in a situation that was just horrible is something we will never forget. Then the care she took with Bimmer after the fact and upon her return home can only be described as impeccable. Please know that choosing Gentle Farewells will be the best decision you can make in an incredibly sad time.

I cannot recommend Dr. Hines more. A month ago I had to make the heartbreaking decision for my dog Muñeca to pass. She had certain special needs I was concerned about due to her history of being an untouched village street dog her first 7 years and being a dramatic lady in terms of all things medical. Before I even made the appointment as we were still trying a few last options with our vet, Dr. Hines was kind enough to talk me through what she could do to support a peaceful passing. Both in her communication before and after, and while she at our home she was so kind, empathetic, professional and it was clear to me she is using her expertise to make passings as peaceful as possible with attention to detail to make sure nothing is harder on the owner than it already is losing their beloved companion.
