How to Save Money at Veterinary Trauma Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr. Stone and his team. Dr. Stone performed surgery on my dog, Keke, and provided exceptional care from start to finish. He was professional, compassionate, and took the time to explain everything clearly, which gave me great peace of mind during a stressful time. What impressed me most was his dedication after the surgery. He personally answered my phone calls and questions over the weekend, which showed how much he truly cares about his patients and their families. Knowing that I could reach him when I was worried about Keke meant so much to me. Thanks to Dr. Stone’s skill and attention, Keke received outstanding care and is doing great. I am incredibly grateful and would highly recommend Dr. Stone to anyone looking for a veterinarian who is knowledgeable, caring, and genuinely committed to the well-being of their pets.

I am so blessed that I called you guys today. Little did I know that I would be met with a genuine welcome and made to feel more at home at your office than what I am used to….typically your ushered in and rushed out. I felt as though I stepped back into time…when people cared about you and your pets. Dr. Stone and office staff are amazing. They helped my poodle with some cysts and treated her so kindly. They squeezed me In at the last minute. At the end they didn’t charge me and that made me tear up. I have been through so many horrible things this year…that little gesture was such a blessing to me. It meant so much. I wish I could have hugged everyone. Thank you for seeing that I needed help and helped my dog. I will be making you all my permanent vet! My mom will be bringing her dogs to you from now on as well. Thank you again. Please if you have any animals and are looking for someone who is compassionate and loves animals take them here.

I absolutely love the care that my dogs received. My first visit was when my female american bully BELLA broke her elbow. Care and knowledgeable was fantastic. The price was great as well. 2nd and 3rd time was with my male american bully NINER. The care and knowledge the Doctor has saved my baby. He removed a blockage from his intestines. His professionalism and knowledge put me at ease. I knew that he would be ok. The staff is very professional Custer service was great. Thank you for the care you've given my babies.

Dr. Stone and his staff are awesome! He has found things that other vets including internal medicine specialists missed entirely. One of my dogs ended up with extensive (expensive) workup and months of medications with only moderate improvement, for loss of appetite, weakness, chronic ear infections, and weight loss. We saw Dr. Stone, and he tested him for allergies and it turns out he was allergic to all of the food that the other vets prescribed. He is doing great on his new food WITHOUT medications, and his ear infection cleared with a gel pack and hasn't returned! He has treated my other dogs for injuries at various times (including this week when one of my dogs escaped to chase an armadillo and came back vomiting blood) and caught other things that other vets missed, and has always been spot-on, never under-treating or over-treating, always caring. He has always gotten us in when we really needed him, and has literally saved my dogs' lives. As a physician for humans myself, I understand the value of true experience and clinical judgment, and I would not trust anyone else's judgment more than Dr. Stone! Thank you so much!

Dr. Ronald Stone has cared for all of our dogs throughout the years since 2001. He has shown an exceptional amount of care and compassion for our fur babies. He proceeds with an open mind and determines the best care and alternatives for our pets. He has also provided in depth physical therapy services and comfort care for our senior dogs. Our family admires Dr. Stone tremendously because he also believes in pet adoptions to help provide second chances for many shelter animals. All of our pets were adopted from shelters and Dr. Stone has treated them with the best care possible. To this day, he is our veterinarian that continues to provide 45 plus years in expert medical care for animals. We will not go anywhere else. Thank you Dr. Stone for being a member of our family for over 20 plus years! You are appreciated for your years of dedication to loving animals.
