How to Save Money at Animal Cancer Care Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My Missy girl comes to the animal cancer care clinic because she was diagnosed with lymphoma. We have been going to the Deerfield location every week for almost three months now. I’m happy with my decision to treat her. I can’t say enough good things about Adriane, Dr. Fernandez, and Danielle. All three of them make me feel at ease and are so extremely kind. They have been very sweet to Missy as well. They are truly the best part of this whole experience. She is in remission and hasn’t had any negative side effects. I’m thankful for this center and this team of people and for what they do to help my baby.

My precious 9 year old kitty, who had been treated for fibrosarcoma last year at ACCC in FTL, is now losing her battle with cancer after her tumors have since returned and are inoperable. I’ve been watching her show me she’s not well in her eyes and the sadness I see on her face. But I haven’t been able to bring myself to make the ultimate decision just yet. I needed an oncologist’s opinion. I saw Dr. Fernandez today at the Deerfield location and he couldn’t have been kinder or more patient in helping me figure out how to navigate her last days to weeks with me. I can’t begin to thank him enough for how sensitive and thoughtful he was towards me and my Minnie “Mouse.” He came up with one more last ditch effort to make her more comfortable, so we’ll see if it helps at all. Either way, I’m grateful for his approach and appreciation for my breaking heart. Danielle was amazing. Carried my baby out to my car for me and just talked with me. She was so kind and supportive and offered to help me any way she could during this difficult time. I knew, going in, this wasn’t a visit to save her, but to help give me confidence about what exactly she’s dealing with internally and what, realistic, time she has left. I really needed her checked by a professional and solid advice based on that assessment. I got all of that and more. Thank you both for being the caring, compassionate human beings us pet parents deserve. This is a great little team and I will always be grateful to them.

We are incredibly grateful to Dr. Williams and Dr. Holtsinger for the exceptional care they provided to our cat Hazel during one of the most difficult times in her life. Dr. Williams diagnosed Hazel’s cancer, and Dr. Holtsinger performed the surgery. From the very beginning, both doctors were attentive, compassionate, and fully committed to her care. Throughout the entire process, they kept us informed every step of the way. They explained her diagnosis and treatment options clearly, answered all our questions with patience, and helped us make decisions with confidence and clarity. Even after the surgery, they checked in on Hazel multiple times to monitor her recovery. Hazel recovered well and remained cancer-free for the rest of her life. She ultimately passed from kidney disease, but we will always be thankful that cancer wasn’t part of her final chapter.

Ollie is a 13 year old golden doodle. He was diagnosed with lymphoma and is currently in remission. Every one at the clinic is kind and friendly. I feel very fortunate to have such good support from the staff.

I just wanted to hop on here and write a very good review since when I first got into this location I was scared because of some less than good reviews. We called Animal Cancer Care and were able to get into this Deerfield beach location on a cancellation. Scared and saddened, the staff made us feel so much better. They run the clinic on time which is a huge help and with compassion. Dr. Fernandez is nothing short of an outstanding person with just the right demeanor and bedside manner to help. Patiently always answers all our questions and we never feel rushed. Our dog Roxy is now in remission and we feel good about the care she is getting. If you are in the unfortunate situation of having a dog diagnosed with cancer, this is a place with heart and knowledge to help.
