How to Save Money at The Animal Clinic of Woodland Park

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I am beyond grateful for Dr. Hopkins and the amazing staff. Today could have been so much harder than it already was, having to put our beloved Sky to rest, but the compassion and care we received made all the difference. The staff was absolutely wonderful. They offered to let us do everything outside so Sky could pass peacefully in their grassy area on a beautiful day, which meant so much to us. Everyone was organized, gentle, and incredibly thoughtful. The technicians were awesome! They even brought out a peanut butter treat with little snacks in it, prepared so perfectly for her to enjoy after her catheter was placed. Dr. Hopkins, THANK YOU! She took time out of her incredibly packed schedule today to accomodate us. Everyone was well organized, The technicians were amazing and placing the catheter, Sky didn’t even flinch.Loved them..They were sooo good! Although Dr. Volz wasn’t in today, we are also very grateful to him for recommending X-rays before moving forward with more treatment. That guidance helped us make the right decision for Sky. I have been coming here for years, and I truly appreciate the conservative, thoughtful, and compassionate approach they take when treating my pets. Thank you all for helping us through such a difficult day with so much kindness.

We had such a wonderful experience with Dr. Hopkins and the entire team. Dr. Hopkins took care of our dog, Murphy, when he wasn't feeling well, and from the moment she walked into the room, you could tell how genuinely much she cares about animals. She was incredibly kind and gentle with Murphy, and he absolutely adored her. Dr. Hopkins was thorough, attentive to every detail, and took the time to explain everything clearly. She gave us a thoughtful plan with clear next steps, which made a stressful situation so much easier to navigate. We left feeling informed, reassured, and truly cared for. The entire office staff was just as amazing, everyone was welcoming, kind, compassionate, and so accommodating. It's rare to find a clinic where every single person makes you feel so valued. We are incredibly thankful for the care Murphy received, and we absolutely love this clinic and the wonderful staff they have. We couldn't recommend them more highly! Boulder- our Malinois was very happy to have his brother Murphy home safe, healthy, and happy ❤️

I love this vet Clinic, they have taken very good care of my girl for most of her life. Even though I have moved away to Texas, I come back to visit semi annually on this particular trip. I came back to see them because six years ago they operated on her cruciate ligament in her left knee fast-forward to now she is eight years old and she’s been having some pain in that knee. She hasn’t been bearing weight on it. She’s limping all the time and actually not even using that leg. She’s been limping around on three legs. Her vet in Texas tells me it’s arthritis and gives me carprofen and that’s that and it really doesn’t help. She still runs around all the time I give her carprofen, which worries me because I don’t know what carprofen does to a dog. I know that if we have human take too much aspirin or and says it hurts our liver so while here I took her to see this vet, and they looked at her and said her ligament is still stable and they gave her an injection in her knee. Well, she went in limping and went out walking. It was basically a miracle. I was so happy and she is walking like she’s fine now they did give me a new prescription so that way in case the injection wears often she needs something and they also gave me the name of the injection on the bill and told me I can tell her vet in Texas. That’s what they gave her so basically they were able to help her in three minutes when her vet in Texas couldn’t help her at all. I can never say enough about this that they’re wonderful use them it’s worth it. I have use them even though we are down in Colorado Springs. The drive is worth it.

The team at Animal Clinic of Woodland Park is exceptional! Dr Volz discovered my supposed neutered dog was never neutered after only one initial exam and my appointment wasn’t even to address that. They were able to perform the internal neutering at the same time of his dental visit saving me time and money. They have taken excellent care of all 3 of my pups and always go above and beyond with helping me understand what is happening and what is needed for their best care. I moved about 90 mins away from their office last year but continue to make the drive over to them because there is no other team I trust with my little family. I cannot thank them enough for all the love and care they’ve given my dogs and myself. Thank you guys! Amanda Harvey

First time visit for my yellow lab, Bennett, with Dr Hopkins-could not be more pleased! Dr Hopkins was professional, compassionate, and very thorough with her exam. We are excited (and relieved) to have found our new Vet!
