How to Save Money at Veterinary Emergency Group

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This is hands down the best vet and emergency hospital we’ve ever been to. From the moment we arrived, it was clear how much the entire team cares about both the pets and the people who love them. We’re now on our second night of hospitalization, and every single staff member has been incredible. They are extremely attentive—no matter how busy they are, they make sure every patient is well cared for. They’re thorough, compassionate, and clearly know what they’re doing. They even have rooms with pull-out beds so you can stay with your babies, which is a total game changer! My girl already has anxiety, and I couldn’t imagine having to leave her for days on end while she’s sick. We’re not out of the woods yet, but thanks to their dedication, my baby is finally on the road to recovery. I’m beyond grateful for everything they’ve done, and I wouldn’t want to take my fur babies anywhere else. Highly recommend!

I can't express how grateful I am for the exceptional care my fur baby, Lyric, received at VEG last night. From the moment we walked in, the entire team was phenomenal. Dr. Stephanie Bronsther is hands down the best vet I've ever encountered, her compassion and expertise were evident from the start. I found myself wishing she could be Lyric's regular vet, not just for emergencies! The entire staff was incredibly caring and loving; it's clear they genuinely care about their patients. They were organized and efficient, handling everything right there at the benches: ultrasounds, medications, other treatments, all without the need for a separate room. This approach not only streamlined the process but also kept Lyric and other pets comfortable right by their owners' side. I can't recommend VEG enough for anyone facing emergency pet care needs. It's a wonderful place with a supportive environment and the nicest staff you could ask for. Thank you, VEG, for taking such great care of Lyric! ✨💗💗💗

The team at this clinic delivers exceptional service. Everyone is warm, attentive, and genuinely invested in the well-being of the pets. Their professionalism, patience, and thorough explanations make a visit stress-free. I feel confident that our pet is receiving the best possible care. Doctors take time to explain every step, the technicians handle pets with remarkable gentleness, and the front desk team is consistently friendly and efficient. Their commitment to high-quality care and customer service is evident in every interaction.

My dog Lennon recently needed emergency care due to vomiting/diarrhea and subsequent dehydration. The staff welcomed us in and were incredibly friendly. Dr. Bronsther took care of Len and we were on our way. Unfortunately, Len didn't want to eat and we had to revisit VEG a couple more times, including for an overnight admission. Dr. Hansen, Dr. Martic, and Dr. Schultz (as well as everyone else) did their best to take care of her while we figured out next steps to get her feeling better. I ended up waiting at the clinic while we waited for an abdominal ultrasound and not once was I made to feel like I was unwelcome or taking up space. Every single person I met at VEG was welcoming, friendly, attentive, and compassionate. Len is finally feeling like herself again thanks to VEG and their due diligence to make sure she was good. They even called to check on her after everything! I can't recommend VEG enough - everyone cares about both you and your pet when you go there. Fingers crossed I don't need emergency care for Len again, but if I do, this is the place I will go every time.

I would 100% give this clinic 10 stars. Came here when our senior dog was suddenly sick, they gave him so much love when we got there and while they treated him. Because of multiple factors we had to put him to sleep, they gave him pain medication so we were able to spend one last night with him. They were so patient with us and allowing us to grieve, the nurses were even willing to do clay paw prints, ink prints, and glass vials of his fur. After he had passed I was stressed about getting as much paw prints as I could to have more memorabilia to help me and my family, I had called to see if i could go see him with my own ink prints but instead they decided to give us extra paw prints. I’m so grateful for all the nurses and doctors at this clinic, without them I don’t know how I would’ve been able to recover from this loss. They gave our pup so much honor and love even in death, they have helped me and my family heal we will forever be grateful to this clinic.
