How to Save Money at Heartfelt Animal Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have been taking my cat to Heartfelt since 2023. Each time has been a positive experience. I like that the place is clean and calm and the people who work there are very friendly! I also really appreciate that they are Fear Free Certified!

We just returned from a trip from Oklahoma to California, and our cat Stinky wasn’t looking well—she clearly wasn’t feeling her best. She’d previously had a UTI, so we decided to bring her back to Heartfelt Animal Care, the same wonderful place that helped us before. I can’t say enough about the fabulous job they do. One of the things I appreciate most is how new, modern, and exceptionally clean their office is. I always feel confident that Stinky will be in the best hands here. Today, Laney assisted us, making sure we got an accurate diagnosis and found exactly what Stinky needed. While everyone at Heartfelt Animal Care is great, Laney was especially outstanding. She truly deserves recognition for the excellent care and support she provided, and I’m incredibly grateful for her help. Thank you so much, Laney!

My daughter found a stray (or so she thought). She was working outside and a stray cat came up to her, none of the neighbors new who's cat it was, it was very skinny and hungry so she took it home. The next day, she brought it to Heartfelt for an exam. The exam cost us $500! After or during the exam, the Dr discovered a chip in the cat and called it's owner (still charged us $500 even though it was chipped). My daughter being young and having a big heart for animals paid it! Anyway, the "owner" was called and was pissed off that we had her cat. She text my daughter several times accusing her of holding the cat for RANSOM for the $500 and stealing it from her front yard! Not once did my daughter ask her for the $$$. Turns out the cat is 15 years old and weighs 4 lbs... anyway, the owner is a mean, nasty person and showed up at Heartfelt demanding information on her cat. Well, here's where I get really mad. The office printed the information requested by the owner (all the tests and medication given to the cat, which we paid for) the office gave her the printed information that had all of our information on it! Our home address! The crazy owner showed up at my house at 8:15 am pounding on our door. I was already gone to work, my two daughters home alone had to deal with her. We feel afraid because she knows where we live and my daughter is a bit traumatized by it all. She was not kind and again and again accusing us of "stealing" her cat from her driveway and holding it 'ransom'. I know mistakes happen, but giving our home address to someone is NOT ok! When I called the office to let them know, they said the manager would call me back, but instead called my daughter not wanting to deal with me. There was a simple apology, not offering any solutions. I'm very upset about the $500 and really upset about giving our home address! I gave them opportunity to handle this quietly by calling me, but they chose to call my daughter instead so here I am writing this review! Please be careful if bringing in any strays and be sure to ask them to scan for a chip before ANY money is given.

My cat was ill and I called my (now former) vet who couldn’t get her in today. This had happened before so I was already prepared to move on from them. A friend took her cats to Heartfelt and was very pleased with their service. I called and was able to get an appointment that day. I found them to be very kind and professional. My kitty has improved within 1 day so I would say that they know their stuff. Thank you Heartfelt. You now will be the vet for my two kitties.

She took time to answer my questions, explained what was going on and the treatment my puppy would need. Her bedside manner was impeccable and she was so gentle with my puppy. Her staff was excellent, we felt very welcomed and truly cared for. Thank you!
