How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Banfield is the best place to bring your pet. They are very friendly and helpful doctors and staff. They always have taken good care of my cat zoe. They check up on Zoe making sure she is ok and has a health plan that is very helpful and affordable for our pets. I like to say thank you to the vets and your staff for always taking care of my cat zoe. I am truly grateful for everything you guys have done for me.

This Banfield Pet hospital of north Roseville is by far the BEST one in all the network . It has very strong and smart veterinarian's and there is this one staff member that I noticed does everything at the front desk . I would really like to thank Christina L. who has made all my medications and appointments very convenient to deal with monthly . I believe she is short staffed because she is constantly busy and makes sure it all gets done with a professional attitude when dealing with several customers at different times . If your looking for a safe and great pet hospital for your pet , I recommend this place by far and our dog Newport has been taken care of through the last 12 years by this staff from surgeries to amazing shift leaders that make it all happen.

Read my longer review on Yelp. I was limited on here to how much I could write. This is a WARNING for others. An actual employee at this location specifically told me that corporate pushes them to take as many clients as they can which in turn can sacrifice patient care. They advised me to contact Banfield cares and file a complaint, which I did and it has yet to be resolved to my satisfaction. The regional doctor would not approve a further compensation past what the office manager offered which was only $350.00 but required me to sign an NDA. I would rather warn others than be silenced for $350 bucks after losing my pet so tragically. I firmly believe my doctor could have potentially prevented this had he been giving me the proper advice and level of care that my pet deserved. I’ve since reached out to Banfield cares numerous time seeking to speak to someone higher up and still haven’t heard back from anyone. I called on October 2nd and again nearly 3 weeks later to follow up. They’re required to have someone call you within 3-5 business days. Still no call. So here I am writing this review. On top of all of this, after my pet passed, I never even got a condolence card in the mail which I mentioned to the office manager Emily numerous times. She kept saying they made one but she would need to look into where it went as the last time they had it was in the back of their office. At some point she should have taken the initiative to make a new one and make sure it got sent out. Every single other company that had contact with my dog sent us something. But not my own personal vet. How sad that they don’t even care about their clients enough to make sure they actually send a condolence card once their patient passes. That just proves that my pet was nothing but a number to them.

I have had nothing but good things to say about Benfield pet hospital. They did everything they could to get my dog in to be seen as early as possible. When it was time for us to have my dog cross over the rainbow bridge, they were very caring and compassionate about the heart break and pain we were experiencing at our loss. We were with my fur baby throughout the whole journey and the staff was very patient and showed my fur baby as much love as we did. They sent us a card with condolences signed by the staff and a nose and paw print of my girl. When we are ready for another fur baby we will be bringing them here for their care.

I specifically love and so grateful for this location only because of Dr. West. His quality, care and knowledge is amazing. He is respectful and makes you feel like he himself is a part of the family because of the care and the detailed knowledge he has with his patients and owners too. He’s the main Dr for my pets; Tate the Doberman (12 yrs old) and our 22 yr old Putri (RIP)…Thank you!
