How to Save Money at Eyeshine Veterinary

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

It is too bad that ratings only go to a 5. We would rate Eyeshine Veterinary a 10!!! We recently took our poodle to Eyeshine Veterinary for a second opinion, after we were told that he would have to have his eye surgically removed. Prior to this first visit, we were unaware that there even was a specialty for animal ophthamology. Wow! Our ophthamologist was extremely knowledgeable, thorough, and kind. Her support team were all great. We were so impressed with the facility, the team approach to patient care, the time they took with us, and the plan going forward. Bottom line - EYE SAVED!!! We definitely recommend Eyeshine Veterinary!

Dr Reed and her team are amazing. I was able to quickly get an appointment. They did require a deposit at the time we scheduled, as i expected from other experience with other specialists, it was a portion of the exam fee and was applied to my fees today when we checked out. Smooth check-in process with my forms available online to complete before arriving. The front staff was welcoming and we were quickly roomed by one of the nurses. Reba and Kara were great with my puppy and made sure he stayed stress free and happy the whole visit. Dr Reed was great, she explained in depth what's going on with Gary's eye and we came up with a game plan for monitoring his condition as he grows. I love how detailed she explained everything and zero pressure to try medications or procedures that he doesn't need at this time. Thank you to the entire team for a smooth, stress free visit.

Just took our younger Australian Shepherd to Eyeshine today. We received the same outstanding service as with our other Aussie back in May. Dr. Reed and her staff provide the best experience for dogs from initially walking in the door through diagnosis and treatment. Once again, a complete explanation. Eyeshine gets my highest recommendation.

If you have to take your animal to a specialty eye veterinarian, this is the place to go. It is always difficult for our animals to have illness, but eye issues are painful for the owner as well as the animal. Dr. Reed and her staff are the most thoughtful, cautious, kind and aware people in the business. This facility is state of the art, but most importantly, they are very aware that owners are hurting too. I witnessed an elderly gentleman bring in his dog for surgery. He was so worried he looked ill. The staff gave him and the dog comfort with exceptional human empathy, before taking the dog back for the dreaded surgery to remove it's eye. Amazingly compassionate! My dog had all kinds of unknown eye issues. With great gentleness, the staff and Dr. Reed put the dog through various tests and explained as they went along. Most importantly, they laid on the floor with him, gave him treats and loving reassurance during the whole procedure. Dr. Reed shared her diagnosis in a Reader's Digest level and used technology (iPad and a screen) to share her findings. This is the only way to understand complicated medical information. She is on top of it! On our follow-up visit, there was a bit of commotion in the office, as they had recovered two stray animals in the parking lot that morning. With joy for animals and care for the community, they corralled them, kept them safe, and found the owners. I got to see the reunion of dogs with owner and joy on the staffs faces for having accomplished an act of kindness! What a great staff! You will pay large sums of money at any specialty vet. Those are the rules. We as lovers of animals will pay it. Eyeshine Veterinary is the only place to go.
