How to Save Money at Town & Country Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

After nearly two years of trying to find a veterinarian I felt confident in and could truly trust, I can honestly say I finally found one at Town & Country Animal Hospital. I originally brought my cat here during an emergency when she became seriously ill with pneumonia. Our previous veterinarian was wonderful, but it had become increasingly difficult to get appointments when I actually needed them. That day, they were unavailable, and I was genuinely worried I was going to lose my cat. Town & Country was nearby, able to see her, and willing to help. Even under those stressful circumstances, I felt comfortable the moment I walked through the door. The staff was welcoming, the facility was spotless, and for the first time that day, I felt like my cat was in the right hands. Instead of feeling rushed or overwhelmed, I felt reassured that she was receiving the care she needed. Dr. Dean was exceptional. He was calm, kind, and incredibly knowledgeable, but what stood out most was how he treated both my cat and me. He took the time to explain everything in a way that made sense, showed me her scans, answered every question, and never made me feel rushed. I still remember him gently referring to her as "our girl" and reassuring me that they were going to take good care of her. In a very difficult moment, that meant more than he probably realized. What I appreciated most was that I never felt pressured into unnecessary tests or treatments. The recommendations were thoughtful, reasonable, and based on what was truly best for my cat. The pricing was fair, the communication was excellent, and the level of care was outstanding. Since that first visit, I've moved both my cat and my dog to Town & Country. Every experience since has been just as positive. The entire staff is friendly, organized, efficient, and genuinely caring. The facility is spotless, comfortable, and welcoming. Just as importantly, I've never felt like anyone was trying to sell me services I didn't need. The pricing is reasonable, the care is excellent, and it's obvious that everyone there takes great pride in what they do. Finding a veterinarian you trust completely isn't easy, but that's exactly what I found here. Dr. Dean and the entire team at Town & Country have earned my confidence, my gratitude, and my loyalty. I recommend Town & Country Animal Hospital without hesitation to anyone looking for compassionate, knowledgeable, and trustworthy veterinary care.

under poor circumstances I found myself in need and this practice will forever have my business! The staff is so kind and empathetic and helpful and showed us care we never expected. Additionally they were efficient, informative, reasonably priced, and helped us make the best decision for a tough day while protecting our dignity. SO GLAD I FOUND THEM

Twenty years ago, my 90lb bulldog wandered into the woods and came out with his backside chewed up by coyotes. Town and Country was the closest vet, and Dr. Hammond took my dog right in, and stitched, stapled, and taped his rear end. He charged me very little for everything. I’ve taken all my pets there ever since. Dr. Edgeman just neutered my latest dog today. These people are the best.

Super thankful for Dr. Edgemon's help. My girl came in with Acute Kidney Injury from ingesting a liquid fly trap. He was super straight with me when it came to her labs and what numbers would indicate that it's time to let her go versus continuing to care for her. I told him I was on a really tight budget due to some really large expenses fixing a vehicle this month and already having spent a lot of money at the emergency vet. Sometimes when it rains, it pours and you find yourself spending your whole emergency savings in a matter of weeks. When he found that her labs were back within normal range, he encouraged me to keep going and help me to balance her treatment and saving money by taking care of her at home. She has absolutely amazed me at recovery. I have him to thank for considering my budget and being honest about her prognosis while giving me the resources I needed keep her alive/help her recover. Thank you!
