Sneaky clauses

Apparently the policy excludes conditions that arose in a prior policy year, even if you were insured with PHI at the time. What a scam! I’ve never heard of any insurance working in this manner. Our dog developed a cyst in April but our policy renewed in May. By the time he was seen by a specialist, who is recommending surgery, we were into a new policy year and therefore this is considered a pre-existing condition so none of the specialist fees nor surgery will be covered even though we were insured the entire period. Make sure your pets’ illnesses occur in isolated years otherwise your claims won’t be paid! How ridiculous! I’m sure it’s clearly written in our policy (the lawyers would have made sure of that) but this is so contrary to how I’ve ever experienced insurance that I didn’t notice that restriction. It’s totally understandable if the condition arose before we got insurance but this is nonsense.

Total scam

I'm a Canadian customer, and I deeply regret I've been wasting my money on this mediocre insurance. It's a scam. Basically, I've been paying for nothing. My cat got serious issues and we had to see a vet multiple times. They denied all claims, finding a way to exclude them from coverage. I'm going to report them to the Ombudsman inspection, it's an unethical way to do business Don't let them take advantage of you!

Payout Limits

Two annual policy options: $5,000 or $10,000. 80% reimbursement on eligible vet bills. Your co-insurance share is 20%.

Age Limits

Pets must be at least 7 weeks or under 14 years of age at the time of enrollment. Once enrolled, coverage will continue for as long as the pet remains enrolled.

Exclusions

Understanding what is not eligible for coverage is as important as knowing what is covered. Like most pet insurance policies, PHI Direct does not cover pre-existing conditions. With ‘New-Condition Coverage,’ any condition experienced in one policy year will be considered pre-existing in future policy years, including any associated or bilateral conditions.
