Long term customer can no longer recommend
I have had Figo on my Beagle since 2018. The policy started out at around 600 per year. This year's renewal was an incredible 1600 dollars per year. That is a 166% increase. I used to recommend Figo to everyone all the time because they do pay claims fast and according to their policy but since they switched underwriters their increases have been untenable.
I lowered my coverage down to the bare minimum (5k with 80% reimbursement and 500 deductible) in order to make it reasonably affordable at 687 but will cancel when this year is over and switch to Pet's Best which will allow for unlimited coverage, 90% reimbursement and 250 deductible for just 90$ more than I am paying now for very minimal coverage.
There is much ado in the pet insurance community about how filing claims doesn't increase your premium. They are right about that, it doesn't, but it isn't really a benefit for those of us with healthy, well-cared for dogs who rarely use the insurance and almost never exceed the deductible amount when they do. I would rather they based the cost of the policy on the claims filed, frankly - at least that way I'd be paying according to my usage.
Figo is also one of the rare companies that doesn't offer a discount for those of us in the veterinary field. This is a common discount because most pet insurance companies recognize that dogs owned by veterinary professionals often get huge discounts on care and they receive much more care than the average pet, which warrants a discount because it saves them money.
