How to Save Money at The Animal House Pet Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Our family dog goes here, they are very caring with the animals. Last week Monday I brought my 12 year old cat there, just thought it was a tooth issue......but it was cancer under her tongue and it was too far spread, so I had to make the heartbreaking decision to put her to sleep. Dr. Brad was great and very sympathetic. I highly recommend The Animal House.

We have been with this clinic for several years and continue to find that they provide quality care, compassion each visit. They do not do unnecessary procedures/exams just to charge for them. We will continue to bring our pets, our "babies" here!

would not recommend this place. i have brought my cat in twice for a simple eye infection (if that’s even what it is) and was given 2 different medications both times. none of them worked which is okay, not their fault. but i was never actually told what my cat has, i was never told what type of eye infection it was. they just told me if they didn’t come out to talk to us after the check up, it wasn’t a cut on the eye. that was it. the second time i went there, they talked me into spending $200 on eye medicine and ear cleansing (other things also obviously but still) because the vet thought my cat had ear mites. was never told if he had ear mites or not so i assumed he didn’t. so i basically spent $200 on nothing but some ear cleaning i could have done at home. they were very nice and gave me some good advice but didn’t actually help anything and didn’t tell me what was wrong with my cats eye. would definitely recommend going to a different vet in the green bay area who will actually tell you what’s up.

This weekend our brand new puppy, who didn’t have an appointment with our regular vet til the following week, became ill. We called around and 3 vets were not even taking new customers. Well feeling this was a bit of an emergency I was adamant we be seen and wow let me tell you I am ecstatic that all those other places weren’t taking new customers because I am in love with this place!!!! If I wasn’t blown away by their kindness and sincere love for pets then their service will definitely get ya. I was expecting to pay a house payment for the entire ordeal my puppy had to go through and honestly it’s wasn’t that bad. I don’t know all the names of the receptionists on duty this past Friday and Saturday but I have to say I love you all. I believe I spoke to a Chelsea as well and she is a saint. Dr. Jessica was extremely helpful in discussing and explaining the situation and what the treatments were and what to expect afterwards. I will be seeing that I transfer all my care here. The drive is worth the peace of mind. If I could give you more stars I would. Thank you to all the staff. 🩵💜🩷

Worst vet clinic I have ever dealt with. Our dog had surgery there last December 23rd. We were told before she went into surgery she would need to stay there until the following day for observation. After surgery, they called us and told us she could be picked up in about 4 hours. I reminded them they told us she needed to stay. They basically wanted her to go because the following day was Christmas Eve. I told them we had 3 other dogs, my husband was extremely sick and I had to work that night and with them having told us she would have to stay we did not make other plans for her. I told them they would need to keep her especially since we had just spent $1600 on surgery and their original plan was to keep her. I was not going to chance her coming home and something going wrong and having to then pay an emergency vet bill. They tried arguing but in the end, could not due to their own original plan. When we picked her up they said she had dissolvable stitches and that was supposed to be the end of it. It was not though. About 2 weeks later my son was petting her and felt something hard on her stomach and then looked and saw staples. They NEVER said anything about staples nor scheduled another appointment to have them removed! I immediately called the office to have them tell me it was in her discharge instructions, which it was not. I brought her in immediately to have them removed. We will not be back. Also learned recently how absolutely horrible they are to the dogs in the daycare. They sit for over 12 hours at night without being brought out quite often. They are dragged by the leashes if they are not listening to the workers the way they want them to. In general they are not treated the way you would want your dog treated.
