How to Save Money at Drennan Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

As of today I will no longer take my fur kids to Drennan Animal Hospital. Although I like Dr. Drennan and care he has provided, the other Vet in the practice is rude and unprofessional. Not to mention the new front desk person who did not disclose important information over the phone not once but twice. I took time away from my job, showed up in the window of time given to learn the nondisclosed information this morning. This was the first time I have been given this information and none of the previous times I have been there was this ever an issue. The rude VET came out to address me. Now I was upset and frustrated so instead of approaching me to defuse the issue she was aggressive. The new front desk person was equally rude and aggressive in tone. When pushed to make a decision, I expressed I am processing what I need to do, the rude vet continued to push. I told her there is no mistaken she is rude and not a nice person. The new front desk person told me I was disrespectful. Keep in mind over the pass few years I have spent a lot for the care and treatment of my fur kids. I made the decision NOT to leave my pet in their care, left and found somewhere provide professional and compassionate care. My records are being requested by my new vet. My advice to Drennan Animal Hospital is hire people with compassion, without hostile anger issues and who appreciates their clientele no matter how much they spend. Responding to the reply: I never cussed anyone. I said in my review I was upset. I had two calls with the incompetent new hire The day prior who asked about the vaccines and I gave her the correct information. She never said anything about not being able to leave my pet only to be there within the time allotted. Then I received a confirmation call and no mention of a problem with the vaccines not being able to drop off. Furthermore professionalism is lacking. Compassion is questionable with the staff and female vet. And their reply sums up the lack of intelligence and professionalism. This platform is to inform and not act as high school student.

We've been trusting Dr. Drennan and his staff for around three years with our two dogs. Unfortunately, we had to make the impossible decision to say goodbye to one of our dogs unexpectedly. I couldn't speak more highly of Dr. Drennan and his staff for how they tried everything in their power to figure out what was wrong and then helped my family make the most impossible decision without pushing us a certain direction. No one wants to say goodbye but the care and kindness of his staff helped us through a difficult time. I'd recommend this office to anyone and everyone. Thank you to the staff and everyone involved in helping our boy in his final days.

Moving into town and they were recommended by friends, and they are great! Update, we added to the family, and back we go, staff is friendly, caring, helpful, and laugh at the worst dad jokes ever. They are also very professional, care about your pets health. They also do their all to make it affordable to care for your pets.

10/10 service, at drennan’s animal hospital I felt welcome and feel like I was in good hands. The staff is professional and super friendly. When dr drennan & Bethany had my fur baby in their hands I felt like I wouldn’t Trust anyone else but them. My baby received the best care not only as a patient but as if it was one of their own, with love and professionalism . Thank you so much to dr drennan and all his staff y’all are the the best #1

I was referred to this vet by someone who’s been a member for over 20 years. I was told that I had to make a deposit of $50 to make an appointment. Never was I told that it was a non refundable deposit. The receptionist set me an appointment for me to drop off my puppy. I’m guessing she’s new so she wasn’t aware puppies couldn’t be dropped off. She called back letting me know that they aren’t able to do drop offs for puppies. I completely understood and we hung up the phone. The next day I called asking for my deposit back because it was never mentioned when we spoke the day before. She insisted on scheduling me another appointment for a later date after I had already asked for my deposit back but keep in mind she still never once told me it was non refundable. I called back the next day trying to cancel the appointment and get my deposit back because I found a family for the puppy and they were going to take care of all of the medical stuff for the puppy and I was told I wouldn’t be able to get my deposit back. I’m just here to say that $50 is not chump change and it should be said before scheduling someone an appointment making them aware that it is non refundable. They all were nice and respectful people though. It just kind of pissed me off when I was told I couldn’t get my money back 4 days before the scheduled appointment without even being made aware of their policy.
