How to Save Money at Family & Friend Pet Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I needed to get my pup in to see a doctor for a same day appointment. The vet hospital I was currently using told me they had no openings but I could come in as a walk-in which would be more money and the wait could be over an hour or more. I called Family & Friend Pet Clinic and they could see my dog with in a few hours. The clinic was super clean and we did not have to wait at all, we were took right back to an exam room. I'm so happy that I found this place. Dr. Miller is such a kind, knowledgeable, and caring veterinarian. He took his time and actually got on the floor to exam my Isabel who is 13 years old. He comforted her, didn't stress her out and took so much time with her and explained everything. I also want to thank Melana, his technician. She was so sweet and also took time to comfort Isabel, she is such a wonderful asset to their hospital. Their prices were so reasonable and they didn't push me to do anything that I wasn't able to do. I have now switched to them as Isabel's new veterinarian hospital and I couldn't be more pleased with the experience we had. Kate at the front desk was also very nice checking us out. I would give more than five stars if I could they are absolutely the best. Thank you Dr. Miller and your whole team for taking such good care of our old lady ☺️

Dr. Miller and his staff are just amazing, to us and to our precious Critters. We have 5) cats and a Golden Retriever. They are awesome with all of them they have seen. Very affordable services and will give you options good for your finances and your pets health.I have never called them that I didn’t hear a helpful voice on the other side of the line and we so much appreciate how comfortable our fur babies feel there. The staff and Dr. Miller have such a good way with them and are truly gifted at what they do from all sides. Would highly recommend this clinic to anyone for their pets care♥️

I can not say enough good things about Family and Friend Pet Clinic! We had to say goodbye to our boy , 14 1/2 years old. He was no longer eating and we knew his time had come. I called them to see if they could help with him. We were not currently patients of the clinic and they were so kind and caring, they fit us in same day. They made sure that I was comfortable with everything and that more importantly our pup was comfortable. They gave us as much time to say goodbye as needed. Gave us little keepsakes to remember him by. And lit this candle in their lobby for him. All the little things are what meant so much, in this very difficult time. I highly recommend this veterinarian office. We will be back for our other dog's needs. It's so special to feel like they genuinely care for you and your pet. It's more than just a job to them. Thank you so much from our family!

The staff and Vet are wonderful. Our dog had some breathing issues so we called Monday morning and they were able to get him in that afternoon. Then we called the next day for the same issue that had worsened and they took him in first thing in the morning and kept him all day to do the needed testing. We really appreciate their speed and effort.
