How to Save Money at VEG ER for Pets
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Lucy's pet care team were AMAZING. The kept us up to date in every phase of her care. An all around perfect place in a pet emergency. Compassion and caring are terrific but the knowledge was top notch.

Can’t say enough great things about VEG. Unfortunately my poor boy didn’t end up making it, his little body was giving out on him. But VEG let him spend his last night with dignity. I got to be with him for every step of the process, and even let me carry him around as we wheeled his IV. I’m confident they gave him his best shot at recovery. Everyone we worked with was so kind and caring. They continually checked in with us, even when they were incredibly busy. I never felt alone in the process. They were thoughtful in their treatment recommendations and were honest when they thought it was time to get him to more intensive care. Coco was my absolute best friend for 16 years and the team at VEG really made me feel like they recognized that and he mattered to them. They kept me updated with texts and pictures. His night at VEG was his first (and last) time sleeping away from home and I was really nervous for him, I could tell he didn’t want to sleep because he kept nodding off and waking up. Their picture and encouraging texts made me feel a million times better. I wish I could turn back time and make a lot of different choices, but I will never regret taking him to VEG. He got very sick very fast but they never made me feel like we were giving up hope. Thank you guys a million times over for treating Coco and I like we mattered. You made an unbearably painful situation the best that it could be.

This was the very best care my little Charlie-Chalupa could have ever received! The staff at VEG was very compassionate and loving towards my little boy! The doctors were incredible! They diagnosed Charlie right away, so that they could pinpoint the best plan of action, to make him better! My boy had to stay overnight for comprehensive care. The doors were open for me to stay or come see him at any time of the day or night. It was such a positive and loving environment for the animals and pet owners. I am so very thankful and grateful to have experienced such professionalism and kindness provided to me and my Chalupa! Sending deepest thanks to the staff at VEG! ❤️

We took our baby dog Maizey Biscuits to VEG . Upon arrival Maizey was weighed & we were brought to a holding area with 2 comfy chairs . Vital signs were taken as well as reason for visit . The Dr came & evaluated Maizey . She assessed Maizey & took a history . It was decided that she needed to be admitted . Dr C went over the tests that she would like to have done , along with the rationale for them . She was thorough , but not frivolous with labs & x-rays that she ordered. I was given the option to stay , so I took it . What a comfort that was . We were brought to a room with a bed and offered snacks & drinks . I really just wanted a coffee , but was brought a basket of goodies , a water and a coffee . I felt very cared for . Maizey & I cozied up on the bed . Despite being sick , Maizey was comfortable. When it was time for Maizey to go for X-rays , I was invited to go . WHAT ?!?!? How Great was that ? No anxiety for Maizey as I didn’t have to surrender her to have her X-rays . She had supportive care & was well enough to be discharged the next day . The staff spoke directly to her and gave her the time that she needed . Such kind and compassionate people - ALL of them ! The staff gave the pets that they treated 100% of their attention . Even though it was a very busy Saturday night , they took it in stride & worked with a smile . I didn’t enjoy my pet being sick , but I was So happy to have come into contact with this incredible group of animal lovers . Bravo VEG ! I will spread the word ❤️🙏🙂

I am so relieved this emergency veterinary hospital exists. Our first visit was on a busy Saturday - but surprisingly we honestly did not wait long at all! I’ve waited for far more time in other offices. The staff are ALL kind, generous, and did not push us with which steps to take next. They understood our situation and worked with us to get our baby Flora back on track. Our second trip was the tough trip, where we were told our baby would need emergency surgery that night after we agreed to move forward with getting tests. Dr. Armstrong is so compassionate and listened thoroughly to all of our silly questions, even the ones that had to do with payment (can I just mention this office takes CareCredit and scratch pay?? Awesome!!!). And the doctor that performed the surgery knew her stuff and knew it well. We were scared but left feeling confident that Flora was in good hands. They promised they would wake me up in the middle of the night once Flora was out of surgery, and they certainly kept their promise! Our baby is now recovering from surgery and I’m shocked as she’s already doing better than she was not even 12 hours after surgery. AND they provide complimentary snacks and beverages!! I really could go on and on, from the doctor who performed Flora’s surgery (thank you from the bottom of our hearts) to the ladies who kindly would open the door and check us in, you all are angels. If you’re doubting where to bring your beloved pet, THIS is the right place. I cannot thank you all enough. 🩷 Love, Flora, her momma and her daddy.
