How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Pittsburgh Veterinary Cardiology
Preventive care
Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.
Compare prescription pricing
Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.
Consider pet insurance
Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Getting to Know Your Veterinarian

Experience
Ask whether the clinic has experience treating your specific type of pet, since care can vary between dogs, cats, and pocket pets.
Emergency Care Procedures
It’s helpful to understand how the clinic handles after-hours emergencies, including whether they provide emergency services or refer to nearby emergency hospitals.
Communication Preferences
Ask how the clinic communicates with pet parents, including updates, test results, and follow up questions.
Breed Specific Health Considerations
Some breeds may be more prone to certain health conditions. Early awareness can help with prevention and early treatment.
Facility Tour

Bailey and Dr. Anderson were great with my giant pup. They’re very knowledgeable about Dobermans, which is very important to me.

Our beloved beagle unfortunately developed heart disease and then heart failure. Dr. Anderson was compassionate, thorough, and great at explaining everything. She went above and beyond when our dog passed, showing that she had formed connection with her patients beyond just another appointment on her daily schedule. I hope you don’t find yourself needing this office, but you’re in good hands if you do!

My love-of-my-life cat suffered from HOCM for a long time and experienced a very rapid decline in the last few months. As completely devastated as I am, I appreciated the kind and thorough care he was given by the team here. I probably should have been marked as a spam caller with how often I consulted their helpline, but was never met with anything but sympathy, patience and clear direction. I felt his doctor was compassionate and truly invested in his well-being, which has regrettably not always been my experience with medical professionals. Insofar as I could be as a layman client, I felt confident that every last option that could help him was pursued. How his condition progressed and how I needed to care for him at home was always very clearly explained and documented. I got entirely too little time with my baby, but I'm sure it would have been even less and more painful for him without their assistance. I'm very grateful for that.

If you can get to dr Sikorska, she is amazing. It’s the front office staff that lacks compassion. I called to inquire about donating my recently passed dogs’ medications and they texted me in response. I did not say in my voicemail to email or text me (which it explicitly says to say please text) This is not the first issue I’ve had with them, but this is the most egregious. Edit: they called me to discuss my negative google review.

Today I brang my nia in for her initial vist for testing they have found alot of different things wrong with her they went over everything they eased my mind and took away my biggest fear of losing her. They showed comfort and compassion took the time necessary to show exactly what was going on with her. They seemed to actually know what they was talking about and wasn't trying to candy coat anything and they also came right out to her aid to make sure she was ok when she had fainted. They got her blood work back immediately and called me to let me know results. I'm so happy that I had brought nia here this just saved her life and gave her a little more time in life for that I couldn't be more thankful
