How to Save Money at Somerton Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My dog is 9 and never had a vet to go to. I always took him to PAWS to get his vaccinations. I am extremely impressed by Dr. Guilliford and his staff. They were very personal, waiting room was not overcrowded and staff remembered my dog and I when I called back. Prices were much lower than I expected.

We have used Somerton Animal Hospital for almost 8 years now and would never take our pets anywhere else. Dr. Cullen is amazing and recently got down on the floor with our 70 pound pit bull to give him loving and treats while examining something on his leg and foot. I recommend this vet without reservation and would give them 10 stars if they were available.

I took my guinea pig butterscotch here and thoroughly explained her condition. She had an upper respiratory infection and an eye ulcer infection that stemmed from her URI. She was clearly wheezing and had been displaying difficulty breathing. I couldn’t go in and speak to the doctor myself because of covid restrictions and experienced poor communication skills from a receptionist that constantly forgot to call me back each time I called expressing how concerned I was. I explained that I did not want to leave her eye infection to rapidly spread until the day of the appointment and they allowed me to come and pick up medication at the door early. When I arrived I asked if I could show some pictures and videos to further explain the urgency of the issues and she refused. The day of the appointment they sent her back with eye medication and had removed the dead skin that was completely covering her eye because the medication I paid to receive earlier had done nothing. She said the doctor had told her that butterscotch’s lungs were fine and the wheezing would stop after eye infection cleared. She died two weeks later. I DO NOT RECOMMENDED this vet and I have no clue why their rating is even what it is. Because of the negligence of this establishment my baby is gone. YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES CLOSE MY FILE I WILL NOT BE RETURNING.

This was my first time using Somerton Animal Hospital and I have to say they were so great with my snake! The vet and the techs were all so helpful and gentle. It’s very obvious that they all love the animals. My snake is a decent sized boa constrictor who most definitely did not enjoy having his mouth examined and flushed so he was thrashing around and wouldn’t stay still but not a single person got frustrated with him. They spoke to him softly and handled him with care even when he was uncooperative. I highly recommend them and will definitely be taking my animals here from now on.

I called them frantic because my cat was in distress and couldn't move his legs. They immediately saw him. As the Dr was checking him my boy passed away. I should have have been inside with him but because of covid I could not. This was my first time there. They were kind and sympathetic to what I was going through. I'll be taking my 2 girls (cats) there for a check-up
