How to Save Money at Fairmount Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We have gone to Dr. Eynard for both our cat and recently our dog. Both my wife and I are long time animal owners and we are so happy to have found this place. Dr. Eynard goes above and beyond to ensure that our animals are taken care of. He takes the time to answer any question that you may have in as much detail that you need. This is the only place we will take our pets to and would highly recommend this practice to anyone.

It’s rare that dogs arrive at and leave the vet wagging. With Dr. Eynard that is always the case. Not only is Lucas treated well but I always leave knowing he got the best, and most thorough care. One time my dog had an unusual GI infection and Dr. Eynard went above and beyond with doing research, calling experts, and making sure Lucas got the best treatment. They answer all my questions and check in after appointments to make sure my pup is doing better. I would recommend Fairmount Animal Hospital to every Philly dog owner.

My dog and me have moved around a fair amount which has resulted in us seeing a few different vets over the years. I did not know that a vet could be as fantastic and caring as Dr. Eynard- he has set the bar so incredibly high that I do not think we'll ever be able to go to another vet. I had become so accustomed to 15 minute vet visits and calls from support staff which is so dramatically different from my experience with Dr. Eynard. My dog is getting older which has led to difficult decisions around which medications he should be on, ensuring he is at the appropriate weight for his aging joints, and Dr. Eynard has been there every step of the way. He has taken so much time to walk me through my options and is always there to support with my many questions. I've never found a vet that cares for my dog the way that Dr. Eynard does. I truly cannot recommend his practice enough!

We highly recommend not going here when there are countless nicer, cleaner, more professional animal hospitals right in the area. This vet is dirty and feels like everything is outdated. We went here for our puppy’s initial few visits and the vet had very poor bedside manner. He never introduced himself, said rude condescending jokes, and it always felt like he was trying to upswell us on other vaccines and treatments. There was no other staff besides the front desk and the whole operation just wasn’t reassuring. He has a thick accent which isn’t his fault, but it makes understanding what he is trying to tell you, and vaccines to promote, impossible to hear and understand. When you question him on something, he would sort of mock you and say you’re dumb for not getting this etc. The vet also has weird hours and isn’t open and available when you need them. We switched to Art Museum Vet Center on Fairmount and the experience is night and day. Such friendly staff, always available for help and questions, extremely new and clean. Not to mention it’s the same price as his operation.

My family has been going to Fairmount Animal Hospital for over 20 years. Dr. Eynard is an extremely knowledgeable and caring veterinarian. I continue to take my cat, Lolita, to FAH for her annual wellness checks and the odd office visit. Dr. Eynard and his staff have gone above and beyond to ensure the health and safety of my cat and my father’s dogs (and cat). Not to mention affordable. Thank you Fairmount Animal Hospital!
