How to Save Money at Emancipet

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

These people were so lovely that I won't even take a star away just because of the horrible PetSmart they are located inside of. It would be nice if it was noted somewhere that they were actually located inside of the PetSmart. (Maybe they did and I missed it.) Wonderful job on my boy. Everyone was caring and attentive from start to finish and really cared. Alex was especially kind and helpful. He even helped me bring my boy out to my truck at the end. He was also very patient and empathetic to my complaints about the location itself. Prices were outstanding also. The PetSmart itself (outside) was filthy and the manager was blatantly inconsiderate. They would not allow me to use a restroom while there to pickup my pet after driving from NJ with personal needs for feminine care. Even after having to be embarrassed to actually plead to use a restroom, even the store manager would not allow it. Apparently they turn away elderly and disabled patrons as well, according to another staff who has to deny people, due to policy, all the time. The store management is too lazy to have to delegate cleaning to keep a clean bathroom and simply be diligent to deny use to outside public. I was a paying customer. They need to fix this as well as stop being lazy and clean all of the urine and feces that are outside for God knows how long! Some of it is so old it's even dried up. So watch your step on the way out of your car going inside. And make sure you use the bathroom at Target if you're closeby and have to go. They're the real MVP here. All in all, just due to the location issues, I would try the other location next time I'm booking an appointment.

Took my dog and cat here. They both got fixed and their shots. It was easy to make an appointment. The staff were friendly and informative. Everything went great with their procedures. The prices are very reasonable and make it affordable to get pets medical care.

I took my Frenchie, Ellie, to Emancipet for her spay surgery, and I can’t say enough good things about our experience. This was my first time going through something like this because she is my first dog, and I was so nervous. I wanted to be absolutely sure that she was in the hands of a talented and caring team who would treat her like their own. From start to finish, the staff at Emancipet exceeded every expectation. Everyone was so kind, patient, and professional. The booking process was simple and stress-free, and they were very open to answering all of my questions and addressing any concerns I had. On the day of her surgery, the check-in process was quick and organized, which really helped calm my nerves. When I picked Ellie up, she was a little sleepy (as expected), but they had cleaned her up so beautifully—there wasn’t even a drop of blood. When I checked her incision at home, it looked amazing. The stitches were so clean and neat, and her recovery has been going so smoothly ever since. I’m so grateful to the entire Emancipet team for taking such wonderful care of my girl and giving me peace of mind throughout the entire process. You can truly tell that everyone there cares deeply about the animals they treat. Thank you for everything, you’ve earned a forever client in us!

I could not be more grateful or happier with the level of care, service and last-minute life saving surgery my dog received here. I found myself in a terrible position. My dog had become extremely ill overnight. In the morning she was diagnosed with Pyometra. Without pet insurance or access to a large credit line, the quotes other clinics gave me for emergency surgery were completely unaffordable. I saw Emancipet while searching online for resources, called them and explained the urgent situation. They fit me in, SAME DAY (unheard of) with the most unbelievably charitable price possible. ($150) (I was being quoted over $6000+) Finding Emancipet was truly a miracle beyond comprehension. I’m still in disbelief. Dr Lopez was phenomenal. The team was amazing. They worked with me to save her life, I am forever grateful. I will be donating to Petsmart Charities and Emancipet for the rest of my life. The nonprofit work they’re doing here is beyond touching, and the impact they made on my family and I is immeasurable. I almost lost my baby, but Emancipet allowed her to see another day. Thank you eternally.
