How to Save Money at VCA Bridgeport Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

$163.54 for a 1 year vaccine, Trio starter dose, fecal test. Doctor began telling me about some friend of his in Manhattan and her dog sickness. First off I don't live in Manhattan, second he never returned to give my puppy his shot. Some woman who isn't a doctor walked in with shot in hand. She wasn't certified to give the shot leaves with my dog. Unethical as hell. Then when I questioned the problem they started oh we trimmed his nails for free. First off I don't believe they even gave my dog his vaccine and charged me. Paperwork never showed his second shot for his records. Last but not least they signed me up for shipping to my home which I never requested. I honestly believe this place needs to be inspected. I know realized why I stopped going here. Will further pursue this matter on a higher food chain. *******UPDATE******* If you write a negative review they say they sent your records some place else. They never sent the records. Says a lot for their services. Have an awesome vet now.😃

Our cat Noodles was very sick, she had a 50/50 chance of making it. Thanks to Dr. Bauman and the staff at VCA, Noodles made a complete recovery and is back to her feisty self. I cannot stress enough how amazing everyone is at VCA Bridgeport, from the ladies at the front desk, to the office manager, nurses, vet techs, and the amazing vets!!! The staff is incredible and everyone is extremely compassionate. We will not take our cat or little dog Sammy anywhere else. Thank you VCA Bridgeport.

Dr. Hall and his team were amazing and professional with trying to figure out my parrot's symptoms. Unfortunately, with birds they hide their symptoms very well because of their natural history of being a prey animal in the wild. Kiwi was approximately 25 years old, average age for an Eclectus parrot in human care is 30 years old. Kiwi was most likely not sick but slowly regressing due to old age. Dr. Hall and his team were very professional when it came to the time to say goodbye to my best friend of 25 years...I want to shout out to the vet technicians that came back to the room to check up on me and my family as I was saying the hard goodbye to Kiwi after he passed. It was probably the hardest thing I had done in my life and the empathy of the vet technicians was greatly appreciated. I have been through several euthanasias in my own animal career and family pets, but this time that one act of kindness from the vet techs went a long way to helping me cope with hard decision I had to make. Thank you for your commitment to the animals and their human family members!

The staff are genuine loving people and made my experience comfortable. Dr.Robinson is very kind and has sincerity in his heart. My sweet Sassy was not feeling well and unfortunately it was time for her to go, they kindly explained the procedure and was there for me and Sassy every step of the way. I highly recommend this clinic and Dr.Robinson. They are all so amazing!
