How to Save Money at Cathedral Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Everyone at Cathedral Animal Hospital is kind and patient with our Spike, who looks forward to vet visits! He had bad anxiety for his x-ray, and we didn't feel at all rushed to proceed, but were instead encouraged to come back after he had more medication in his system and wouldn't feel too anxious. The staff regularly checks in after procedures or new meds to make quick adjustments as needed. I can count on Cathedral Animal Hospital to provide compassionate care to my baby!

I NEVER leave reviews. Like I think it’s a waste of time but I have to say something about my experience at Cathedral. I have a 85lb Great Dane who can be pretty reactive to strangers and is 100% fear aggressive at the vet. Our last vet was horrible with him. He had to be muzzled and they never tried to figure out other ways to care for him or make him more comfortable to actually be able to help him, not just turn him away because he wasn’t allowing them to work on him. So I’m sure you know my headspace when it comes to the vet. I asked a local group who they recommended and they said Cathedral. When I called, the receptionist was SO KIND and SO UNDERSTANDING. I explained all of his behavioral issues and she reassured me that we will come up with a plan that is best for him and even thanked me for advocating for my dog. That alone was so refreshing and had me very hopeful. When I got there I went inside without him and they let me know that they would call when the lobby was clear so we could weigh him and get him back no issues. I said it would probably be best for him to be seen away from me and they said okay. When we got him back in the room the tech was soooo respectful of his space. I still had him muzzled for everyone’s safety for the first visit but they waited until he was interested and really let him speak for himself. They took down our information and went to get the doctor. The doctors energy when she came in was sooo calming. Not just for my dog but for me as well. I thought she was going to grab him and take him back but she came in and sat on the floor while I gave my pup treats. After a few minutes she asked if she could start giving him treats and from there everything went amazing!! She listening to his body language, when he was uncomfortable she stopped what she was doing instantly and tried a different way. She gained his trust in the FIRST visit. The other vet couldn’t do that in 4. It was nice that she also trusted him. You could just feel it in the room. I asked if she wanted to take him back for the vaccines and she was like I don’t think I need to, he’s doing great. He got his vaccines and some extra treats and we were out of there! They even called a couple days later to check on him. This was by far the best experience I have ever had. If you have any type of fear reactive or aggressive dog, I HIGHLY recommend them. Such a great experience. So so so grateful I have a place like this now.

Really knowledgeable and helpful staff. Everyone was so sweet to my skittish cat, and they had treats for him so he could feel comfy while getting his shots and his chip. He did amazing, and I think that was mostly due to the staff’s kind attitude. Also, very reasonably priced.

I had a great experience with Cathedral Park Animal Hospital. I have an older English Bulldog who gets fear aggression which makes it really challenging to get care for him. However, the team did such a fantastic job with him. They were responsive to my concerns and the notes from previous vets and make the experience as easy as possible for everyone. My dog ended up needing to have advanced oral surgery, and Dr. Lindsay and her team were amazing. They answered lots of questions from me and helped me feel at ease ahead of time, and were so gentle and sweet with both me and my dog even though we were both quite nervous and scared. Even though surgery for my dog was high-risk due to his breed and age, everything went smoothly and my dog was out of surgery faster and at a lower price than I had expected. Afterwards, they followed up to make sure my dog was okay, which I really appreciated. I felt very comfortable at this vet's office, and I am happy that they will be able to care for my dog for the foreseeable future. I would recommend this vet to anyone in the area without hesitation. Thank you so much!

Cathedral went to great lengths to assure my cat and dog both had a positive experience for their initial appointments. My cat was immediately comfortable with staff once in the exam room, something that was NEVER true at my previous vet’s! Love these guys and HIGHLY recommend them—they’re willing to take the time needed to not rush the pets, and are easy to talk to and open to answering all my questions. Amazing!
